The Barcelona-based company Santafixie, considered the first online store in Europe specialised in urban cycling, has requested bankruptcy proceedings. The Commercial Court number 8 of Barcelona is processing the case, which includes a purchase offer for the productive unit.

The company Santafixie, located at 49 Santander Street in Barcelona, has initiated bankruptcy proceedings that are being handled by the Commercial Court number 8 of the Catalan capital. Founded in 2011, the company focuses on the online sale of urban bicycles, components, and accessories, and presents itself as the first store in Europe in its specialty.

The court has appointed the firm FPF, represented by Alicia Herrador, as the bankruptcy administrator. According to the case file, the company's activity will continue, but with a change in ownership: there is an offer from a third party to acquire the productive unit, which would allow operations to be maintained under new ownership.

Santafixie has sold over 100,000 units in around fifty countries since its inception. Its catalogue includes 350 different models and brands such as Cinelli, Chrome, Dosnoventa, Brooks, Restrap, Kask, Kryptonite, Closca, Ortlieb, FabricBike, and Miche. Additionally, it offers a wide range of parts for restoring vintage bicycles, such as wheels, saddles, tyres, and chains.

In 2024, the last financial year with a published balance, the company recorded sales of 3.1 million euros and a modest profit. However, accumulated losses from previous years amount to half a million euros. Between 2021 and 2025, Santafixie received guarantees from the ICO amounting to 0.3 million euros.

The company's shareholders are led by Xavier Clavería Masip, with 35%; Juan Pablo Alberca Lucas, with 32%; the Madrid-based fund Axon, with 15%; and the Barcelona-based company Argom Invest, chaired by Javier Armengol Almela, with 7%. Minor shareholders include Nuria Gámiz Ribelles, co-founder of the company, as well as two other entities also based in Barcelona: BeforeShare, owned by television presenter Risto Mejide and Marc Ros Samsó, and Conector Startup Accelerator, by investor Carlos Blanco Vázquez, promoter of the Nuclio Venture Builder incubator. In total, the partners have injected 770,000 euros in capital and share premiums.

The board of directors consists of Clavería, Alberca, Armengol, and Axon, represented by Javier Martínez de Irujo Hohenlohe, the fund's financial director and a member of an aristocratic lineage linked to the House of Alba and the German princes Hohenlohe.

For Santafixie's customers, the continuity of operations under new ownership could ensure pending orders and after-sales service. However, the bankruptcy process means that creditors will need to present their claims to the bankruptcy administration. It is expected that in the coming months the sale of the productive unit will be finalised and the future of the workforce will be defined.
