The municipal company MATMUSA has decided to halt the concert cycle Sons del Camí, which gathered 5,000 spectators in its last edition, to rethink its objectives and ensure its continuity.
The concert cycle Sons del Camí, which since 2014 has brought top-level artists such as Noa, Lax'n'Busto, Roger Mas, and Maria del Mar Bonet to Manresa, is taking a break. The municipal company MATMUSA, organiser of the event, has announced that there will be no new edition this year and that the project is undergoing a deep reflection to redefine its future.
The decision comes as the cloister of the Museu de Manresa - Museu del Barroc de Catalunya hosts a free exhibition reviewing the festival's trajectory. The exhibition, open until 31 July, showcases posters from all editions, images of the participating artists, and the milestones that have marked the event, as well as the parallel evolution of the Camí Ignasià and the city as the final destination of the route.
Sons del Camí was born in 2014 as part of the preparations for Manresa 2022, the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Ignatius of Loyola's stay in the city. Conceived as a cycle of soulful music, its aim was to offer contemplative and spiritual proposals in emblematic Ignatian spaces such as the Jardins de la Cova de Sant Ignasi, the Basilica of the Seu, or the Antic Col·legi de Sant Ignasi.
Over the years, the festival has established itself as a reference point for summer cultural activity in the area and has contributed to positioning Manresa as the final point of the Camí Ignasià. In its twelve editions, more than 20,000 spectators have attended its concerts. The peak came in 2025, when the twelfth edition brought together 5,000 people at the Palau Firal with concerts by Lax'n'Busto and The Tyets.
MATMUSA, the municipal company of the Manresa City Council, explains that the pause is in response to the desire to reformulate the project and rethink its essence and objectives for the future. The priority, according to sources from the organisation, remains to promote the city of Ignatius through music and artistic expression, but a new approach is sought to ensure the sustainability and impact of the cycle.
The exhibition at the Museu de Manresa offers a visual journey through the history of the festival and allows visitors to relive key moments. In addition to the posters and photographs, it includes testimonies and materials that show the evolution of the event and its link with the Camí Ignasià, a spiritual itinerary that attracts thousands of pilgrims to Manresa each year.
The decision to halt the cycle has surprised some of the regular audience, who were expecting a new edition for the summer of 2026. However, MATMUSA assures that this is a necessary pause to reflect and ensure that the project continues strongly in the future. No specific timelines have been given for the return, but it is expected that the new model could be presented throughout 2027.
Sons del Camí has been a showcase for internationally and nationally renowned artists, such as Noa, Marina Rossell, Joan Dausà, l'Orfeó Donostiarra, Stay Homas, or El Pot Petit, in addition to those already mentioned. Its commitment to quality music in unique settings made it an unmissable event in the summer of Manresa.
While the future is being defined, music lovers can visit the free exhibition in the museum's cloister until the end of July. The exhibition is also a tribute to the artists and the audience who have made Sons del Camí a cultural reference in the Bages region.
