The Castelldefels City Council has activated the pre-alert situation of the Municipal Civil Protection Plan due to the forecast of heavy rain between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
The Castelldefels City Council has initiated the pre-alert phase of the Municipal Civil Protection Plan (DUPROCIM) due to the risk of flooding, according to forecasts from the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (SMC). Rainfall is expected to affect the municipality from Saturday afternoon, July 25, until Sunday morning, July 26.
During Saturday afternoon, light rain is expected along the Baix Llobregat coast, with a probability of less than 30% and accumulations of less than 3 litres per square metre in 30 minutes. However, by night, showers could intensify at times and be accompanied by storms, with totals possibly exceeding 20 litres per square metre in 30 minutes and a chance of small hail.
According to the current forecast, the most intense episode is expected to occur between 02:00 and 08:00 on Sunday. Nevertheless, the probability of impact remains low (between 10% and 30%) and the anticipated risk level is low.
The Municipal Civil Protection Service will continuously monitor the meteorological evolution and inform of any developments that may affect the population. Meanwhile, municipal services have activated various preventive measures.
Among the actions already underway are the inspection and cleaning of drains and drainage points, verification of sea outlets and pumping stations, preparation of mobility and safety devices, checking the operation of underground passages and their automatic closing systems, and readiness of operational resources to respond to potential incidents.
The council reminds residents of the importance of maintaining a preventive attitude. Before the rain episode, it is recommended to check the condition of roofs, downspouts, and drains; locate the main electricity switch and the water and gas shut-off valves; prepare a flashlight, a charged mobile phone, essential medication, and personal documentation; and, if there are basements or flood-prone areas, review available protection measures.
If heavy rain occurs, authorities advise against going down to garages, basements, or areas susceptible to flooding; avoiding crossing streams, torrents, or flooded areas even if they appear safe; not parking vehicles in low-lying areas or near drainage points; and, when driving, reducing speed and increasing the safety distance. If water surrounds the vehicle, it should be abandoned immediately and the person should move to higher ground.
