Castelldefels, Gavà and Sitges are at Level 2 of the Alfa Plan this Thursday, indicating a high risk of forest fire. The City Council has adopted preventive measures such as the prohibition of pyrotechnic materials and the relocation of summer camp activities.
The risk of forest fire is very high this Thursday in much of Catalonia, and Castelldefels, along with Gavà and Sitges, is at Level 2 of the Alfa Plan, which corresponds to a high danger situation. This has been communicated by the City Council of Castelldefels, which reminds that the Special Emergency Plan for Forest Fires of Catalonia (INFOCAT) remains activated at alert phase.
Weather conditions and dry land have caused the risk to be particularly high in areas of the Pre-Pyrenees and in the central and western counties. In the case of Baix Llobregat, the danger is also significant, which has led the council to activate a prevention protocol.
Despite the alert, the Garraf Park, which encompasses part of the municipal area of Castelldefels, has no access restrictions. The City Council clarifies that limitations on the natural environment only apply when Level 4 of the Alfa Plan is activated, the maximum risk situation. Therefore, there are no general suspensions of activities in this natural space.
However, Garraf Park has implemented a specific information and awareness protocol aimed at residents within the natural space and the organisers of planned activities. This is a preventive measure to encourage responsible behaviour and to take extra precautions while the alert lasts.
The City Council of Castelldefels has already adopted several preventive measures to reduce the risk of fire. Among them, the reiteration of the prohibition on the use of pyrotechnic materials throughout the municipal area stands out. In addition, the summer camp activities planned in the vicinity of Cal Ganxo have been moved to urban areas to minimise any possible risk situation.
At the same time, information and awareness tasks aimed at the public will be reinforced, as well as preventive surveillance in areas close to the forest space by forest agents and the Local Police. This control will allow for the detection and prevention of risky behaviours, such as work with machinery on plots and homes, the use of unauthorised barbecues, the use of firecrackers, motorised access to forest areas or uncontrolled dumping.
The City Council has called for maximum caution and collaboration from all citizens to avoid situations that could trigger a forest fire. Prevention is the best tool to protect people, homes, and the natural environment.
For now, there are no access restrictions to Garraf Park or additional exceptional measures in Castelldefels, but it is essential to maintain a responsible attitude and take extra precautions while the current risk conditions persist. The council recommends following the instructions of the authorities and, in case of detecting any sign of fire, to immediately call 112.
