Aemet forecasts a Sunday of locally strong storms on the central coastline of Catalonia, with possible hail. Maximum temperatures will drop along the coast and pre-coastal areas.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated a warning for showers and storms that will affect the central coastline of Catalonia this Sunday, where they are expected to be locally strong and may be accompanied by hail. The warning, which also includes the Balearic Islands, anticipates adverse phenomena from dawn on the Catalan coast and from the morning in the archipelago.
According to Aemet's forecast, the Sunday will begin with cloudy intervals in the northeast of Catalonia and in the Balearic Islands, which will give way to showers and storms. In the central Catalan coastline, the probability of strong storms is significant, with the possibility of hail and very strong gusts of wind in the pre-coastal areas of Tarragona and Castellón. Isolated storms are also expected in the interior of Murcia in the afternoon, which could be strong.
The rest of Spain will enjoy a stable situation, with mostly clear or little cloudy skies across the country. Only in the Cantabrian area and the northern slopes of the Iberian Peninsula are cloudy skies with precipitation expected, which will decrease throughout the day. In the northern part of the more elevated Canary Islands, low morning cloudiness will persist.
Maximum temperatures will experience a widespread increase across most of the country, but not in the Mediterranean regions or the northeastern third of the peninsula, where locally significant drops are expected, especially in the Balearic Islands and the eastern façade of the peninsula. In the province of Barcelona, maximums will drop slightly, while minimums will also decrease, except in the southwestern quadrant of the peninsula. Tropical nights, not dropping below 20 degrees, are expected in the Mediterranean and the Guadalquivir.
The wind will blow with strong intervals in several areas: tramontana in Ampurdán, cierzo in the Ebro, and alisio in the Canary Islands, with possible very strong gusts. In the Balearic Islands and the coastlines of Galicia and the southeastern peninsula, the wind will be moderate from the north, while in the Cantabrian Sea, Gulf of Cádiz, Strait, and Alboran, it will blow from the west, easing. On the eastern façade of the peninsula, the wind will be from the east, and light from the north in the rest.
For residents of the central coastline of Catalonia, caution is advised due to the possibility of strong storms with hail, which may affect traffic and cause localized flooding. Aemet will update its warnings throughout Sunday based on the evolution of the phenomena.
In the rest of the province of Barcelona, the day will be variable, with cloudy intervals and the possibility of some showers, although without the intensity expected on the central coast. Maximum temperatures will remain mild, around 28-30 degrees in the interior, and minimums will not drop below 20 degrees on the coast.
