An accident involving five cars and a motorcycle on Via Sèrgia in Mataró has left ten injured, including two minors in critical and serious condition. Firefighters rescued the two trapped children.
A serious traffic accident occurred on Saturday afternoon on Via Sèrgia in Mataró, resulting in ten injuries, including two minors who are in critical and serious condition. The incident, which involved five cars and a motorcycle, mobilised a large emergency response.
According to the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM), the alert was received at 17:54 hours. Thirteen SEM units were dispatched to the scene, including a medical helicopter, as well as six teams from the Bombers de la Generalitat. Firefighters had to rescue the two minors, who were trapped inside one of the vehicles.
The critically injured minor was taken to Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, while the one in serious condition was admitted to Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, also in the Catalan capital. Both centres are renowned for paediatrics and trauma care.
In addition to the two children, the accident left two others with less serious injuries, who were taken to Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Badalona and Vall d'Hebron. The remaining six minor injuries were distributed among the hospitals in Mataró and Granollers, according to SEM sources.
The causes of the incident are still being investigated by the Mataró Local Police and the Mossos d'Esquadra. Via Sèrgia, one of the main arteries of the city, remained closed to traffic for several hours while rescue operations were carried out and the incident was investigated.
This accident adds to other serious incidents that have occurred in the Maresme region in recent weeks. Authorities remind the importance of respecting speed limits and maintaining a safe distance to avoid chain collisions.
