The CH Mataró women's team has completed its registration for the OK Liga after raising €20,000 in three days. The club has introduced Climent Muñoz as the new coach, replacing Albert Larrea.
The CH Mataró women's team now has a new coach for its debut in the OK Liga. Climent Muñoz, with experience in teams such as Manlleu, Palau, and Voltregà, takes charge of the Lidergrip CH Mataró in place of Albert Larrea, who is retiring. The announcement was made on the same day the club confirmed it had managed to gather the nearly €20,000 needed to process the registration in the top tier of women's roller hockey in Spain.
The interim president of the Mataró entity, Jon Domingo, highlighted Muñoz's track record and his commitment from the very beginning. “He has a long history with top-level women's teams, such as Manlleu or Palau. Moreover, from the very first minute, he has worked in favour of the club, even making sacrifices financially. We are very happy with the coach we will have,” he stated.
Muñoz explained that he accepted the proposal with enthusiasm. “I received the proposal and liked it. After this last stint with the men's team at Tordera, I wanted to challenge myself again with a women's team,” he noted. The coach compared women's hockey to men's: “Women's hockey is much more disciplined. The players really apply what you have prepared. In terms of game understanding, it is similar, but there are also differences in physical aspects.”
The new coach faces the challenge of keeping the team in the elite. “We will suffer, like all teams that are promoted, but we must compete by being strong at home and in defence. We must always maintain concentration and try to be one of the least scored against teams,” he explained.
The team has suffered three significant losses: goalkeeper Paula Lladó, Olga Juanola, and top scorer Nina Almirall. To cover these gaps, the club has signed Vicky for the goalkeeping position, Portuguese player Inés Gaiveu, who arrives from Igualada and has experience with Benfica, and Mariona Buyreu, from Sant Cugat.
Muñoz is confident that all players will take responsibility so that the absences are not felt, but he emphasizes that the key is collective functioning. The goal is to compete in the OK Liga with defensive solidity and take advantage of home advantage.
The CH Mataró fans have responded massively to the express fundraising campaign, which allowed the club to meet the registration deadlines. Now, with the new coach and the new signings, the team is preparing for an exciting season in the top tier.
