The Mataró City Council has begun work to convert the grounds of the old Mas Miralles, in the Cerdanyola neighbourhood, into a temporary car park. 111 new spaces will be created, four of which are for people with reduced mobility.

This action responds to a long-standing community demand and is part of the 'Cerdanyola Viva' programme, funded by the Pla de Barris i Viles 2025-2029.
Two lots in the heart of Cerdanyola
The intervention takes place on two plots located at Calle del Mar, 2 and Calle del Penedès, 2-10. The work includes the adaptation of sanitation and public lighting connections. The chosen pavement is modular and recoverable, designed so that if the space is allocated for another use in the future, it can be removed without issues. Additionally, a planting of trees to mitigate the heat island effect and the creation of green areas with herbaceous species are planned. The project also considers the conservation of water resources, allowing a large part of the pavement to filter rainwater into the aquifer.
A temporary solution with a future vision
The Mas Miralles car park is a temporary measure while the future urban development of the area is defined. The City Council has opted for sustainable and recoverable materials to avoid compromising potential future uses. The construction, with a budget of 370,229.18 euros (including VAT), has been awarded to the company Catalana de Treballs i Obres SL and is expected to last eight months. For the residents of Cerdanyola, this action represents relief in the search for parking, a chronic problem in the neighbourhood. According to municipal sources, the new car park adds to other measures in the 'Cerdanyola Viva' plan to improve the quality of life in the area.
“The goal is to provide a quick response to a real need of the residents, with a solution that respects the environment and is reversible for the future,” officials state.
The project also includes the installation of efficient LED lighting and the creation of a sustainable drainage system. Residents have expressed satisfaction with the start of the works, although some are calling for a definitive solution. For now, the temporary car park is expected to be operational by spring 2027, if deadlines are met.
More than a hundred spaces for daily use
The 111 spaces will be distributed across two adjacent plots, with access from both streets. Four of them will be marked for people with reduced mobility, with adapted dimensions. The City Council has also planned the installation of planters and benches in areas not designated for parking, to integrate the area into the urban environment. This action is part of the Pla de Barris i Viles 2025-2029, which promotes social cohesion projects and urban improvement in vulnerable neighbourhoods of Mataró. In total, the plan allocates several million euros to Cerdanyola, with interventions in facilities, public spaces, and housing.
For residents, the new car park will represent a significant change: until now, many families had to circle around for minutes to find a spot, especially during peak hours. The temporary solution, while a more ambitious redevelopment of the area is awaited, will allow for time and quality of life improvements. The works have already begun and are expected to be completed by March 2027.
