Officers from the Urban Guard of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat intervened this week with an electric scooter driver who was travelling at 82 kilometres per hour through the streets of the city, a speed that triples the maximum authorised limit of 25 km/h for these personal mobility vehicles. The man, who also tested positive in the drug test, has been reported with two fines totalling €1,500, and his scooter has been immobilised in the municipal depot.
The events occurred during a routine police check, which detected the scooter travelling at a speed typical of a car on a motorway. According to sources from the municipal body, the vehicle had been modified to achieve performance far exceeding legal limits, posing a serious risk to pedestrians and other road users. In the event of a collision, the impact at that speed could have been fatal.
The driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, faces an initial fine of €500 for exceeding the maximum permitted speed with a modified vehicle. This sanction is accompanied by another of €1,000 for testing positive for narcotic substances in the tests conducted by the officers. The scooter has been seized and deposited in the municipal facilities, where it will remain immobilised.
