Catalan football loses one of its young defensive talents. Pavel, a 20-year-old Russian defender trained at the Sant Cugat FC academy, has signed for Linares Deportivo, a club in the Primera Federación, for the 2026/2027 season. The deal was finalised on the same day the blue and white team announced the departure of Isra García.
Born on September 26, 2005, Pavel arrived in Catalonia as a child and developed much of his training at Sant Cugat FC, where he took his first steps in grassroots football. He later continued his growth at Fundació Cornellà, FE Grama, Gimnàstic Manresa, and finally, CF Montañesa, the club he comes from and where he played last season.
In the 2025/2026 campaign, Pavel played 25 official matches with CF Montañesa, 17 of them as a starter, accumulating nearly 1,000 minutes of competition. His performance has earned him a move to a higher category, although this means leaving Catalan football.
The defender stands out for his solidity in defensive duels, good positioning, and anticipation skills. He is an intense player in pressing, with the personality to take on responsibilities and versatility to perform in different positions along the defensive line. Additionally, he is confident in ball distribution and has the judgement to initiate play from the back, qualities that caught the attention of Linares.
Pavel has also been an international at youth levels with Russia, although his football development has taken place entirely in Catalonia. For Sant Cugat FC, his departure represents the loss of a youth player who stood out in the club's grassroots football, although the team has not issued a statement regarding this.
Linares Deportivo, for its part, continues to invest in young players with potential. The club from Jaén thus strengthens its defence with a player who, despite his youth, already has experience in the category and knows Spanish football thanks to his time at various Catalan teams.
For grassroots football in the province of Barcelona, this news is yet another example of how local clubs develop talents who then make the leap to other categories. Pavel, who started in Sant Cugat, is now a professional player at a Primera Federación club, demonstrating the youth development work being done in the area.
The new blue and white player will join Linares' pre-season in the coming weeks, aiming to secure a place in the starting eleven. His contract is for one season, with an option for extension based on objectives.
