Just 40 minutes from Sant Boi de Llobregat, the small settlement of Torre-ramona, in Subirats, offers vineyards, a fortified palace, and the headquarters of the Cofradía del Cava de Sant Sadurní. The guided tours include a glass of cava.

Torre-ramona, a medieval enclave of barely fifty inhabitants in the Alt Penedès region, has become a recurring destination for those seeking a rural getaway without straying too far from home. Part of the municipality of Subirats, this historic settlement is surrounded by vineyards and features a monumental complex that includes a Gothic-Renaissance palace and a Romanesque church. The drive from Sant Boi de Llobregat takes no more than 40 minutes.

A fortified palace and a cava brotherhood

The main attraction of Torre-ramona is its Gothic-Renaissance fortified palace, known as the Gralla Palace, which, along with the church of Sant Joan Sesrovires, forms a site of great heritage value. Within the same grounds is the headquarters of the Cofradía del Cava de Sant Sadurní, a non-profit organization that has promoted cava since 1979. During the guided tour, attendees can access the interior of the church, the parish cemetery, the workshop of painter Cathrine Bergsrud, and the inner courtyard of the palace. At the end of the tour, a glass of cava is offered.

Guided routes and natural surroundings

The village can be visited through the guided route 'Torre-ramona, surprising and mysterious', which takes place on the second Sunday of each month starting at 11:00 AM. The price is 7 euros, with a reduced rate of 5 euros. Reservations can be made on the Subirats tourism website. The surroundings, dominated by vineyards and with the imposing Castle of Subirats as a backdrop, offer multiple opportunities for easy to moderate hikes. For residents of Sant Boi, this excursion provides a quick and economical alternative to disconnect without the need for long journeys.

In addition to Torre-ramona, the area features other points of interest such as Sant Pau de l'Ordal, famous for its peach market, and nearby Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, the capital of cava, just five minutes by car. A getaway that combines culture, nature, and gastronomy, perfect for a Sunday.
