Santa Coloma Road, which runs through Badalona, Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Sant Adrià de Besòs, is the focus of residents' complaints about thefts, fights and incivility. A bar owner was attacked with a cutter this week.
Santa Coloma Road, a route connecting Badalona with Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Sant Adrià de Besòs, has become a hotspot of insecurity for residents and shopkeepers. Locals report nighttime fights, violent thefts and the presence of problematic establishments that create discomfort in the area.
One of the most recent incidents occurred last Monday, July 20, at number 30 of this road, in the section belonging to Badalona. A Spanish man aged between 50 and 60 attacked the worker of Granja Modesto Bar with a cutter after the bar owner refused to serve him more alcohol. The victim suffered injuries to the neck and was taken to a hospital, where he is recovering.
La Paradeta bar, with a Latin atmosphere, has accumulated years of complaints from residents regarding noise and fights among customers under the influence of alcohol. This establishment has been the subject of numerous raids by the Mossos d'Esquadra. Residents of Sant Adrià de Besòs avoid using the Artigues-Sant Adrià (L2) metro station at night due to the unpleasant atmosphere.
Additionally, young people on scooters, identified by residents of the Casc Antic of Sant Adrià as perpetrators of violent thefts, lurk in the area. After committing thefts, they flee towards Badalona or Santa Coloma. A few months ago, a group of residents managed to detain one of these thieves until the police arrived.
The situation is particularly concerning for elderly residents who have lived in the neighbourhood for decades. They also report the existence of a commercial establishment where, they claim, beds have been set up and up to 16 young people live, which they consider another sign of the area's decline.
Despite everything, the involved municipalities are betting on urban transformation. A tourist accommodation from the Gaiarooms chain opened months ago at number 76 on Santa Coloma Road, having chosen the location for its proximity to Barcelona and the growth potential of the Besòs area.
