Residents of Badalona report that the crossing of Guifré street with Antoni Bori, in the Gorg neighbourhood, suffers a traffic accident every week. The City Council has committed to making changes to the road.

The crossing of Guifré street with Antoni Bori, in the Gorg neighbourhood of Badalona, has become a black spot for municipal mobility. Residents report that, for months, at least one traffic accident per week has been recorded at this intersection, although they claim the actual number could be higher.

“Every two weeks, we count that there have been a couple of incidents in this area, one per week for example, it’s something normalised but should not be common,” say local sources. So far, the incidents have not been serious or fatal, but the frequency is concerning to residents.

Recklessness behind the wheel and coordinated traffic lights

According to residents, the main cause of the accidents is the recklessness of drivers. “What happens is that all the traffic lights are coordinated, they turn red and green at the same time, and then many cars try to pass them one after the other without reducing speed, and then what happens happens,” explain the Gorg Neighbourhood Association.

Additionally, the crossing has defects that worsen the situation. “There is no ground signage and the pedestrian crossings are not well painted,” they report. They also point out that the traffic lights are not well placed and that tree branches or parked vans can obscure visibility of the signals.

Commitment from the Badalona City Council

The government led by Xavier García Albiol has committed to the AVV Gorg to make changes to the road. “They have told us that everything will be resolved as soon as possible,” residents assure. From the City Council, municipal sources have confirmed that accidents occur when “trucks park that block the traffic light.”

Therefore, Albiol’s team proposes “to make changes and direct parking for motorcycles in the problematic stretch.” The measure aims to eliminate large vehicles that obstruct drivers' vision.

Residents believe that, although the crossing needs improvements, adherence to traffic rules would reduce collisions. “This has been happening for a long time, but the situation remains the same,” they lament.

A deeper problem with new influx

The Gorg neighbourhood has experienced an increase in vehicle influx in recent months, due to new housing developments and the growth of port activity. This has intensified traffic at the crossing, which was already problematic.

Residents hope that the announced measures will materialise soon. “We don’t want to wait for a tragedy to occur before action is taken,” they warn. In the meantime, the crossing remains a daily risk for drivers and pedestrians.

The City Council has not specified timelines for the works but has assured that changes will be made “as soon as possible.” The AVV Gorg will remain vigilant and has requested an urgent meeting with the Mobility department to detail the solutions.
