The Sant Cugat City Council, together with the CSD and the Generalitat, informs about scholarships and programmes for athletes at the High Performance Centre. The aim is to support their development and transition after their sports career.
The High Performance Centre (CAR) of Sant Cugat has become the venue for the third informative day organised by the Higher Sports Council (CSD) and the Department of Sports of the Generalitat of Catalonia. This session, held last Wednesday, highlighted the tools and support available for high-level athletes at all stages of their sports career.
More than a hundred athletes and coaches have already participated in these sessions, which began in Madrid and León, and will soon conclude in Sierra Nevada. The Minister of Sports, Berni Álvarez, presided over the meeting in Sant Cugat, emphasising the importance of unifying support services to improve athletes' performance and quality of life.
Programs and resources for athletes in Sant Cugat
During the day, attendees learned in detail about the CSD Team Spain-ADO scholarships, along with the Team Spain Elite and Strategic programmes, which offer financial and technical support. Also presented were the aids linked to sports results and those aimed at facilitating contributions to Social Security, a fundamental aspect for athletes' stability.
The Department of Sports also promotes the ARC360 programme, which aims to provide comprehensive care for athletes, including sports health services, academic training, and support for job placement. Berni Álvarez stressed that this programme places the athlete at the centre, with an approach that encompasses everything from preparation to transition after retirement.
Comprehensive support and experiences of local athletes
The meeting featured prominent institutional representatives, such as Abel García, Secretary General of the Department of Sports, and renowned athletes who now advise at the CSD, such as Aauri Bokesa. Also participating were those responsible for support programmes for sports careers, who detailed initiatives for work-life balance, maternity, and career guidance.
Athletes from the CAR of Sant Cugat such as Noemí Romero (trampoline gymnastics), Blanca Toledano (synchronised swimming), Maica García Godoy (water polo), and Jordi Morales (table tennis) shared their experiences, highlighting the positive impact of these resources on their development and well-being.
Boosting business collaboration and next steps
In addition, the Spain Competes programme was presented, driven by the Young Sports Foundation in collaboration with the CSD, aimed at promoting business support through tax incentives. This programme seeks to strengthen the economic sustainability of athletes and their projects.
Following the day in Sant Cugat, the series of meetings will conclude next Friday, 17 July, in Sierra Nevada, thus completing a tour of the four High Performance Centres in the country. For the athletes and coaches of Sant Cugat, this initiative represents an opportunity to access more solid and coordinated support that enhances their careers and future.
