A dog attack in Sant Roc triggered a mass brawl and blocked the C-31 for an hour, alerting to the insecurity in the neighbourhood.

The Sant Roc neighbourhood in Badalona was the scene of a tumultuous night last Thursday, when a dog attack provoked a confrontation between residents and the temporary closure of the C-31 motorway. The incident, which lasted nearly an hour, once again highlights the social tensions affecting this area of the city.

The dog attack that ignited tensions in Sant Roc

The events began on Alfonso XII street, where the owner of a dog was seen beating the animal in the middle of the street, according to several witnesses. The dog, which initially barked at a group of people, was also incited against minors, increasing the tension among those present.

Outraged residents witnessed the scene and quickly reacted, leading to a discussion that rapidly escalated into a mass brawl between residents and those involved in the attack. The situation alarmed the community, which is already grappling with issues stemming from the eviction that occurred at the end of 2025.

Protest on the C-31 and response from the Mossos d’Esquadra

After the altercation, dozens of residents moved their protest to the C-31, blocking the road between Sant Roc and Sant Adrià de Besòs. The closure affected both directions and lasted nearly an hour, causing significant traffic delays and hindering mobility.

The intervention of the Mossos d’Esquadra and the Medical Emergency System (SEM) was necessary to control the situation and restore traffic around eleven o'clock at night. The protest reflected the perception of insecurity felt by residents of the neighbourhood in light of recent social conflicts.

Measures and consequences following the incident

The dog was immediately removed from its owner and taken to an animal protection entity, according to official sources. Footage captured during the fight allowed for the identification of the alleged aggressor, who now faces a potential charge of animal abuse.

The Badalona City Council is working in coordination with authorities to reinforce security in Sant Roc and prevent similar episodes from occurring again. In the meantime, residents are awaiting responses and actions to improve coexistence in one of the neighbourhoods most affected by social tension in the city.

This incident adds to a history of conflicts in Sant Roc, which has seen an increase in protests and violent episodes since the eviction of a group of people from a school. The community is calling for urgent attention to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for all.

For those travelling along the C-31 and the Sant Roc area, it is recommended to stay alert for possible sporadic closures in the coming weeks as police and municipal efforts continue.
