The Sant Feliu de Llobregat City Council activated a night mediation service on weekdays starting this Monday to address coexistence conflicts. The project, funded by the Barcelona Provincial Council, will be operational until September 30.
The Sant Feliu de Llobregat City Council launched a night mediation service on Monday, July 20, during weekdays, aiming to reduce neighbourhood disturbances and promote civic use of public spaces. The initiative will last until September 30.
The service operates from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 PM to 1:00 AM. Mediators will intervene in situations that typically generate complaints, such as playing with balls in squares, noisy games late at night, or issues arising from smoke and odours.
This service complements the one already in operation since May 1 on weekends and the eve of holidays, between 1:00 AM and 7:00 AM, also until September 30. In this way, the municipality covers both weekday nights and weekends.
The mediation team, managed by the Local Police, Civility and Mediation department, carries out direct intervention tasks in public spaces to prevent and manage conflicts. They also participate in the Night Leisure Commission and develop awareness campaigns to promote responsible leisure.
The initiative began as a pilot project on May 8, coinciding with the start of the Spring Festival. Since then, mediators have acted on the streets in areas with the most coexistence problems during nighttime leisure.
The project is funded by the Barcelona Provincial Council through a grant from the Shock Plan aimed at addressing coexistence issues and improving public space and social cohesion in Sant Feliu de Llobregat.
Residents of the municipality will benefit from this reinforcement during the months of highest summer activity, when the heat and long hours of daylight tend to increase noise complaints. The service aims to ensure rest without giving up the recreational use of the squares.
The City Council hopes that in-person mediation will reduce the need for police intervention and foster more respectful coexistence. Mediators act as conciliatory figures, seeking agreements between parties before conflicts escalate.
For residents, this measure represents a direct response to the nighttime disturbances that traditionally recur every summer. Those wishing to report any incidents can contact the Local Police, which refers coexistence situations to the mediation team.
