The pool at Club Natació Sabadell is preparing to welcome the best junior swimmers in the country this weekend for the Spanish Junior Swimming Championship. Among the participants is the swimmer from Cuenca, Hugo Valera, from Club Natación Cuenca, who will compete in the 50 and 100 meters breaststroke events.
Valera achieved the minimum mark in the 50 meters breaststroke during the recent Regional Championship, after having narrowly missed it several times. His qualification also allows him to participate in the 100 meters breaststroke due to his position in the qualifying rankings. The 17-year-old swimmer is thus facing his first major national championship.
A Reward for Effort and Consistency
Hugo Valera's presence in Sabadell is the result of months of work under the guidance of coach Mario Asensio. The athlete has been improving his times throughout the season, ultimately earning his spot at the national level. “I am very happy to be able to compete here, it’s a dream come true,” Valera told the club's media.
The Spanish Junior Championship brings together more than 500 swimmers from across the country, making Sabadell the epicentre of grassroots swimming this weekend. The competition takes place at the facilities of Club Natació Sabadell, a benchmark in talent development.
Club Natación Cuenca, on the Rise
Hugo Valera's qualification is also a boost for Club Natación Cuenca, which aims to increase its presence in national championships. The Cuenca club, with a rising talent pool, sees Valera as an example of progression. “It’s a source of pride that one of our swimmers has reached this level,” Asensio highlighted.
For the audience in Sabadell, the competition offers the chance to see young talents who could be part of the national team in the future. The breaststroke events, especially the 50 meters, are often among the most exciting due to their explosiveness.
Practical Information for Spectators
The championship will take place on Saturday and Sunday at Club Natació Sabadell (c/ de la Natació, s/n). Morning sessions start at 9:00 AM and afternoon sessions begin at 4:00 PM. Entry is free for the public until capacity is reached.
