The consortium formed by Prensa Ibérica, Relay Events and Sport Life Ibérica will be responsible for the organisation and production of the Cursa de Bombers de Barcelona from 2026, after winning the public tender from the Barcelona City Council.

The Cursa de Bombers de Barcelona enters a new phase following the awarding of the public tender to the consortium formed by Prensa Ibérica, Relay Events and Sport Life Ibérica. The trio of companies, with complementary profiles, will handle the organisation and production of the event starting this year, as reported by the Barcelona City Council.

Relay Events, a specialist in large mass sporting events, brings its experience from races such as the Cursa de El Corte Inglés, the Cursa Diagonal DiR and the Mitja de Sant Cugat. Sport Life Ibérica, a leading group in sports communication and lifestyle, adds its community of 700,000 active athletes and over 3.6 million followers on social media, as well as having organised events like the Cursa de les Dones Central Lechera Asturiana, the Movistar Madrid Mitja Marató, the Zurich Maratón de Sevilla, and the Cursa de Papá Noel.

Prensa Ibérica, the publishing group of SPORT and El Periódico, among 26 other newspapers, contributes its media amplification capacity, with over 20 million unique monthly users and 176 million page views between both titles, as well as a network of print media and social media with 9.9 million followers. The group is a leader in regional and local information in Spain, with a prominent presence in Catalonia.

The first edition under this new structure will take place on Sunday, 8 November 2026. The race will restore its iconic route through the heart of Barcelona, passing along Avenida del Paral·lel, Gran Via, Ronda de Sant Pere and Via Laietana, with the start and finish near Parc de la Ciutadella.

Under the slogan “The heart that never stops”, the organisation proposes a 360-degree experience for runners. It will include official training sessions, a pre-event digital campaign, brand activations, live audiovisual production and a Recovery Lab in the finish area. Notably, the official siren of the Barcelona Fire Department will signal the start of the race.

The project incorporates a strong commitment to sustainability, with measures such as promoting sustainable mobility, using electric and hybrid vehicles, selective waste management and encouraging public transport among attendees.

The Cursa de Bombers de Barcelona is, along with the Barcelona Firefighters, a symbol of the city. This new phase is born with the intention of living up to this legacy and building a reference project for popular running in the coming years, according to sources from the organisation.

For regular runners in the province of Barcelona, the race is an unmissable event on the calendar. The Mitja de Sant Cugat, organised by Relay Events, is already a benchmark in Vallès Occidental, and now the experience moves to the capital. Interested parties can check the registration dates and other details on the event's official channels.
