The Festa Major de Gràcia 2026 will be celebrated from August 15 to 21 with 23 decorated streets and a quiet night on the 17th. The opening speech will be given by journalist Vicenç Sanclemente.
The Vila de Gràcia is all set for a new edition of its major festival, which this year will take place from August 15 to 21. The event will kick off on August 14 in the afternoon, with the reading of the opening speech by journalist and historian Vicenç Sanclemente from the balcony of the district headquarters.
A total of 23 streets will participate in the traditional decoration contest, one of the hallmarks of the festival. The awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, August 19 at 6 PM in the Vila square, during working hours to avoid weekend crowds, as is customary.
The first deputy mayor and councillor for Gràcia, Laia Bonet, has highlighted the measures taken so that “everyone can enjoy the festival, both residents and visitors, and to ensure that the celebrations are safe and free from gender-based violence.” Bonet emphasized that the major festival is “a community space where residents occupy public space and strengthen ties with the community.”
Quiet night for residents' rest
One of the established novelties is the quiet night, which will take place on August 17 this year. That evening, loud music concerts will be replaced by low-sound activities, aiming to ensure coexistence between the bustling festival and the residents' rest. This initiative was piloted in the summer of 2024 and has been well received.
The poster for this edition, created by Pol Lupiáñez Ortega, places popular dance at the centre as a historical and identity element of the festival. Dance appears as a symbol of gathering and coexistence, reflecting Gràcia's ability to be a space for community cohesion.
Safety and prevention
During the festival days, the Urban Guard and the Mossos d'Esquadra will strengthen their presence to ensure safety. A purple point will be re-established in the Plaza de la Revolución to offer advice, information, and support in the event of possible gender-based or LGTBI-phobic aggression. Other purple points will be promoted by the festival committees in the Plaza de la Vila, on Progrés street, and in the Plaza del Sol. Additionally, safe routes will be established by the police forces.
In light of the expected high temperatures in August, the council recommends staying hydrated, seeking shaded areas, and avoiding prolonged sun exposure during peak hours, paying special attention to children, the elderly, and vulnerable groups. The district will provide a map showing the locations of fountains in the neighbourhood.
The festival will include around a hundred activities, ranging from popular culture events to concerts, children's activities, and workshops, spread across different streets and squares in the neighbourhood. Organisers expect massive participation from both residents and visitors from all over the city.
