Barcelona City Council will connect with La 2Cat to broadcast the Spain-Argentina match at the Marina Platform of the Fòrum. The match will start at 21:00 and access will be free.
The large screen that Barcelona City Council will install at the Fòrum for the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina will broadcast the match entirely in Catalan. The signal will be from La 2Cat, the new RTVE channel in Catalan launched last September. The decision, reported by RAC1, places the Catalan capital among the more than 50 municipalities in Catalunya that have opted for public screens for the major event.
A location with more capacity for the big event
Initially planned for Les Corts, the projection was moved to the Marina Platform of the Fòrum due to high expectations. Access will be via Josep Pla street with Avenida del Litoral. The doors will open at 19:00, two hours before kick-off, and the wait will feature music and entertainment games.
Access is free but with controls. The entry of alcoholic beverages, cans, or glass bottles will not be allowed for safety reasons. It is recommended to arrive early to avoid queues.
A political commitment to the language
The decision to broadcast in Catalan comes from the municipal government of Jaume Collboni. The socialists aim to promote the use of Catalan in Barcelona, where studies reflect a decline. ERC and Junts have criticized the linguistic management of the council on several occasions.
The Govern of Salvador Illa maintains the Department of Linguistic Policy created by his predecessor, Pere Aragonès, with the aim of reversing the trend. The broadcast of the final in Catalan is part of this institutional strategy.
What to expect from the match
The Spanish team, led by Lamine Yamal and Pedri, reaches the final after eliminating France and Germany. Argentina, the reigning champion, features Lionel Messi as its star player. The match promises to be a high-voltage clash between two football powerhouses.
For Barcelona fans, watching the final on a giant screen and in Catalan is a unique experience. The organisation recommends using public transport, as the Fòrum has good metro and bus connections.
