A total of 717 residents over 16 years old have voted on the three proposals that will be executed with the €200,000 from Ripollet's participatory budget. The winners: shade in parks, climate control at Casal de Avis, and public fountains.
The Ripollet City Council has announced the results of the citizen vote for the 2026 participatory budget, a process in which 717 residents over 16 years old have decided how to spend €200,000 on municipal improvements. The three most voted proposals will be implemented in the coming months.
The most supported initiative, with 456 votes (63.6% of the total), is the creation of shaded areas in municipal parks, specifically in Parc de les Moreres, plaça Alcaldes de la República, and parc del Molí, with a budget of €15,000. Following this is the renovation of the climate control system at the Casal Municipal d'Avis, which received 399 votes (55.65%) and also has €15,000 allocated. The third selected proposal, with 348 votes (48.54%), involves the installation of water fountains in various public spaces, with a budget of €40,000.
The remaining proposals, although not winning, received notable support: the repair of parking areas at the end of carrer Padró and between carrer Magallanes, Sant Josep, and passatge de l'Institut garnered 226 votes (31.52%); the renewal of the sound system at the Casal Municipal d'Avis received 168 votes (23.43%); the creation of a calisthenics area in Parc Pinetons got 125 votes (17.43%); the adaptation of the parking area on carrer de la Verge de Montserrat received 75 votes (10.46%); and the installation of table tennis tables at the Poliesportiu Municipal and parc de Norbert Fusté received 73 votes (10.18%).
Since the maximum budget is €200,000, three finalist proposals will not be carried out: the installation of cameras in plaça de l'Onze de Setembre to prevent vehicles from invading the pedestrian area (€15,000), the repair of the southern sidewalk on carrer Cervantes due to fall risks (€40,000), and the acquisition of electric scooters for road safety education activities (€15,000).
The Mayor of Ripollet, Luis Tirado, and the Councillor for Citizen Participation, Lurdes Serra, have thanked the residents for their involvement in the process. “Your participation allows for the selection of actions that will improve our city, both in facilities and in public spaces,” they stated in a joint statement.
Now, the various municipal services and departments will begin the procedures to implement the three winning proposals. The City Council has not set specific deadlines, but it is expected that the works and installations will begin throughout this year.
For the residents of Ripollet, the choice means tangible improvements in their daily lives: more shaded areas to combat the heat in summer, a Casal d'Avis with renewed climate control for greater comfort for the elderly, and new drinking water fountains in public spaces, promoting hydration and reducing plastic consumption.
