The Higher Sports Council has held an informative day at the CAR of Sant Cugat for high-level athletes, detailing the scholarships, aid, and resources available. The initiative, which has already visited other centres, aims to protect and support athletes at all stages of their careers.
The Higher Sports Council (CSD) carried out this Friday at the High-Performance Centre (CAR) of Sant Cugat del Vallès an informative session aimed at high-level athletes. The objective: to inform them about the scholarships, aid, and resources that the organisation makes available throughout their sporting careers. This event is part of a series of meetings that have already taken place at the CARs in Madrid, León, and Sierra Nevada, and in Sant Cugat gathered around twenty athletes.
An integral programme for the athlete
During the day, representatives of the CSD presented the main measures aimed at promoting the protection, support, and integral development of athletes. Among the resources are the CSD Team Spain-ADO scholarships, aid from the Team Spain Elite and Team Spain Strategic programmes, as well as those linked to results in international competitions and those aimed at contributions to Social Security.
The meeting featured the participation of Aauri Bokesa, Olympic athlete and advisor in the CSD Presidency Office, who shared her experience. Also speaking were Marta Angulo, High Competition Technician; Natalia Flores, director of programmes at the General Subdirectorate of Women and Sport; Elisabeth Novo, tutor of the High-Level Athlete Care Programme (PROAD); and Raúl Entrerríos, coordinator of the business collaboration area of the Young Sports Foundation.
Support for dual careers and work-life balance
The CSD promotes the dual career through programmes that facilitate the compatibility of high-level sport with academic training and job insertion. Additionally, it develops specific aid for maternity and work-life balance, aiming to ensure effective equality of opportunities. Athletes also have access to specialised medical services for the prevention, monitoring, and recovery of injuries, with particular attention to physical and mental health.
At the CAR of Sant Cugat, attendees were able to hear firsthand from beneficiary athletes, such as swimmers Ángela Martínez and César Castro, and cyclist Sebastián Mora. All of them highlighted the importance of this aid to focus on their training without financial worries.
The 'Spain Competes' programme and business involvement
Another resource presented is the 'Spain Competes' programme, managed by the Young Sports Foundation in collaboration with the CSD. This programme allows companies to benefit from tax deductions of between 45 and 55% on donations aimed at financing sports projects. It also facilitates obtaining aid for preparation and participation in international competitions, as well as for initiatives that promote the dual careers of athletes.
The day in Sant Cugat has been the last of this first round of informative meetings at the High-Performance Centres, in which more than 200 athletes have participated. The CSD has emphasised its commitment to continue offering these resources and to maintain direct contact with athletes to adapt the aid to their needs.
For the athletes at the CAR of Sant Cugat, this meeting has been an opportunity to resolve doubts and learn about the requirements to access the scholarships. The next step will be the official call for aid, which will be published in the coming weeks on the CSD website.
