Sant Cugat loses Arthur Picole, who joins VRAC

French back Arthur Picole, who was named Best Player of the Honor Élite Division by Rugby Catalunya, leaves Sant Cugat to join VRAC Quesos Entrepinares in Valladolid.

VRAC Quesos Entrepinares announced on Tuesday the signing of Arthur Picole, a back trained in the USAP Perpignan academy and who has been playing for Sant Cugat until now. The 24-year-old French player was recognised by Rugby Catalunya as the Best Player of the Honor Élite Division, an award that attests to his performance in the Catalan competition.

Picole is noted for his versatility in the backline, his game vision, and his effectiveness with the boot, both in conversions and penalty kicks. His departure represents a significant loss for the Sant Cugat team, which loses one of its most decisive players from last season.

VRAC, preparing for the 2026/27 season, has also announced the signing of 22-year-old second-row Jaime Borondo from Ciencias Sevilla, who stands at 1.97 meters tall and was their captain last season. Borondo has an impressive youth record: he finished third in the U18 European Championship, was a U20 continental champion, and won the World Rugby U20 Trophy with the Spanish national team.

Additionally, the Valladolid team has confirmed the return of Samoan international East Timor Faamatuianu, who returns to Pepe Rojo after his stint with the English Doncaster Knights. Faamatuianu was a key player in winning the Iberian Cup, the Spanish Supercup, and the King's Cup in the 2024/25 season. His return strengthens the team's offensive potential, bringing power, experience, and work ethic.

With these three moves, VRAC Quesos Entrepinares continues to shape a competitive squad aiming for all national titles in a particularly significant season, as the club celebrates its 40th anniversary. For Sant Cugat, Picole's departure poses a challenge in rebuilding their team for the upcoming campaign.

The Catalan club will need to find a replacement for the French back, who was one of their offensive leaders. The Sant Cugat management is already working in the market to strengthen the squad and maintain competitiveness in the Honor Élite Division.
