The High Performance Centre of Sant Cugat hosts a day to inform about aids and scholarships for high-level athletes, with the presentation of the Spain Competes programme.

The High Performance Centre (CAR) of Sant Cugat was the venue last Wednesday for an information day promoted by the Higher Sports Council (CSD) and the Department of Sports of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The aim was to disseminate the aids, scholarships and resources available for high-level athletes throughout all stages of their careers.

This session, which had the participation of more than one hundred athletes and coaches, is the third promoted by the CSD in Spanish high-performance centres, following previous events in Madrid and León. According to CSD sources, the initiative aims to strengthen the comprehensive support for athletes, facilitating both their sports development and their transition after retirement.

Spain Competes and resources for athletes in Sant Cugat

The Spain Competes programme, presented at this event by the Young Sports Foundation, is one of the main novelties. This programme, in collaboration with the CSD, promotes the involvement of the business sector in supporting athletes through tax incentives, as explained by Raúl Entrerríos, coordinator of Business Collaboration at the Foundation.

Additionally, other aids were detailed such as the CSD Team Spain-ADO scholarships, grants for athletes of the Elite and Strategic Team Spain, and performance-based aids. Support for social security contributions was also highlighted, a key aspect for the labour protection of athletes.

Comprehensive support and testimonials from local athletes

The event was inaugurated by Abel García, Secretary General of the Department of Sports of the Generalitat, and hosted by Olympic athlete Aauri Bokesa. Representatives from the CSD and the Department of Sports participated, explaining the protection, reconciliation and maternity support programmes for athletes.

Athletes from the CAR of Sant Cugat such as Noemí Romero (trampoline gymnastics), Blanca Toledano (synchronized swimming), Maica García Godoy (water polo) and Jordi Morales (table tennis) shared their personal experiences benefiting from these resources, providing testimonials that illustrate the positive impact of the aids on their careers.

Specialized medical services and job orientation programmes were also presented to facilitate the transition of athletes to new professional stages. According to Montse Senserrich, tutor of the Athlete Support Programme (PROAD), these supports are essential to ensure a sustainable future for athletes after their retirement.

The local impact and next steps

For the sports community of Sant Cugat, this event represents an opportunity to access official and updated information directly about the available resources, in a close environment adapted to their needs. The Sant Cugat City Council positively values that the CAR continues to be a reference in promoting high-performance sports and the overall well-being of its athletes.

The cycle of information days will conclude this Friday, July 17, at the High Performance Centre of Sierra Nevada, thus completing the round through the main high-performance centres in Spain.

Those interested in learning more about the aids and the Spain Competes programme can consult the official platforms of the CSD and the Young Sports Foundation or contact the Career Support Unit of the CAR of Sant Cugat.
