Sant Cugat will start the 2026-27 season of the Women's OK League visiting Marineda Hockey in A Coruña. The Catalan team, which finished ninth last season, will face a newly promoted team in the top tier.
The Sant Cugat already knows its first opponent in the Women's OK League for the 2026-27 season. The team from Vallès will visit Marineda Hockey on the opening day, which will take place in October on a date yet to be confirmed. The team from A Coruña, managed by Ángel Galmán, is debuting this season in the top women's category.
Sant Cugat enters the new season after a notable previous campaign, finishing in ninth place with 30 points, just two points shy of eighth. The team coached by Xavi Garcia aims to improve on these figures and establish itself in the mid-to-upper table.
A Demanding Start to the Schedule
The opening day will feature other notable matches, such as Esneca Fraga against Vila-sana, a clash between the two main title favourites. Both teams are champions of the WSE Champions League and the domestic competition, respectively. Additionally, Vila-sana lifted the Copa de la Reina last season.
For Sant Cugat, however, the focus is on their own debut. The Vallès team has worked hard during the pre-season to arrive in top condition for a competitive season ahead. The squad has retained the core from last season and has added two young players from the reserve team to deepen the bench.
“We are excited about the start of the league. Marineda is an unknown opponent but very eager for their debut in the category. We must impose our rhythm and experience,” club sources state.
The Roadmap for Liceo and Other Catalan Teams
While Sant Cugat prepares for its debut, other teams from the province of Barcelona also have their calendars marked. Caldes, saved sportingly after purchasing the spot from the Igualada reserve team, will face Liceo on the opening day of the men's OK League. The team from A Coruña, last season's Copa del Rey champions, will kick off the league at Torre Roja.
Moreover, the first day of the men's OK League features another high-voltage clash: Igualada will take on Barcelona at the Palau, while Reus and Calafell will meet in the Palau d'Esports derby. For roller hockey fans in the province, the start of the season promises strong emotions.
The Supercopa de España, taking place on 24 and 25 October, will also feature Catalan representation. Liceo, seeded due to their cup title, will face Barça in the semi-finals. If they progress, they would meet the winner of Igualada-Calafell in the final. A weekend that could see three teams from the province competing for the first title of the season.
OK Plata and OK Bronce, with Local Flavour
The lower categories also feature teams from the province of Barcelona. In the OK Plata men's league, the Congrés team will face Escola Calvo Lubiáns on the opening day. Additionally, the Ordes team from Galicia will take on Oviedo Roller. The competition will begin on the weekend of 26 September and will conclude the regular phase on 29 May, 2027.
For Sant Cugat, the goal is clear: to start the season on the right foot in a campaign that will last until spring 2027. The Vallès team will play its first home match in the second round, against Esneca Fraga, at the Pavelló Municipal de Sant Cugat. Fans will be able to closely follow the team's progress in a category that each year gains in equality and spectacle.
