The Metropolitan Area of Barcelona has awarded Copisa the renovation of the Pomar stream, which has been on hold for a month due to the bankruptcy of the previous company. Work will resume in September, with a timeline of 17 months and an investment of 4.2 million.
The Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) has unlocked the urban reform of the Pomar stream in Badalona, after awarding the works to the construction company Copisa. The intervention, which had been stalled for a month due to the bankruptcy of the previous company, is expected to resume in September, as confirmed by the AMB.
The metropolitan entity explained that Copisa is assessing the current state of the works and developing a new execution plan. "The company is currently studying the status of the project and is in the process of constructing the new planning," AMB sources stated. The reform is part of the Environmental Sustainability Plan of the supramunicipal entity.
The municipal government of Badalona, led by Xavier García Albiol, had already announced that procedures were underway to terminate the contract with the previous contractor and award the work to another company before summer. "What was expected was that the AMB would terminate the contract of the bankrupt company and award the renovation to another before summer to meet the deadlines as much as possible," municipal sources indicated at the time.
The halt in the works was detected by local residents, who alerted that they had seen "almost three weeks without anyone" working. "When the works began in February, there were some things that didn't quite add up, very few professionals on site," they explained. Finally, a truck collected all the materials and tools, leaving the intervention "up in the air."
The project for the recovery of the Pomar stream includes environmental restoration and the development of a park that "will take advantage of the unique relief" of the area, according to the Badalona City Council. The goal is to create "a new green lung of reference" in the city, extending from the Alguer roundabout to Carlemany Avenue.
The space will include natural green areas for walking and leisure, benches, and children's zones. Additionally, a new footbridge will be built connecting Joan d'Àustria street with the Pomar Market, and the same street will be expanded with rest areas and a bike lane.
The planned investment amounts to 4.2 million euros, with an execution period of 17 months. If the works begin in September, as planned, completion is expected by early 2028. The AMB is confident that, with the new contractor, the deadlines can be maintained.
Residents of the Pomar neighbourhood, who have lived with uncertainty in recent weeks, hope that this time the work will be completed without further setbacks. The reform of the stream is a historical demand of the area, aimed at improving the quality of life for residents and providing the neighbourhood with a quality green space.
