A fight between families of Roma ethnicity in Badalona has ended with four injured, two of them by gunfire. The confrontation, sparked by a dispute over a wedding, occurred on Jumilla Street in the Sant Roc neighbourhood.

The Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating a violent fight between family clans that has left four injured, two of them by gunfire, in the Sant Roc neighbourhood of Badalona. The events took place on Saturday afternoon on Jumilla Street, when a family from La Catalana (Sant Adrià de Besòs) attended a mediation that ended in a shooting.

According to sources from the Catalan police, the initial discussion revolved around a wedding, but tensions escalated quickly. One person opened fire on the visitors, hitting two of them. Additionally, a third injured person has a knife wound and a fourth has a head injury. None of the injured are in critical condition, according to the same sources.

Police deployment to prevent revenge

The Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Mossos has taken over the investigation to clarify the events and locate the shooter. So far, there have been no arrests. Meanwhile, agents from the ARRO (Operational Resources Area) have been deployed to critical points in Sant Roc and to the hospitals where the injured have been admitted, to prevent possible reprisals between the clans. The police presence in the area remains as investigations continue.

The Sant Roc neighbourhood in Badalona has previously been the scene of similar incidents, with clashes between families often resulting in injuries. The local Roma community, which is deeply rooted in the area, usually resolves its disputes internally, although on this occasion the violence has spilled into the public sphere.

Consequences for neighbourhood coexistence

Residents of Jumilla Street and the surrounding areas have expressed their concern over the escalation of violence. The shooting in broad daylight has caused alarm, although municipal sources assure that it is a specific conflict between families and not a widespread security problem. The Badalona City Council has offered to collaborate with the Mossos to restore normalcy in the area.

The investigation remains open and arrests are expected in the coming hours. Meanwhile, officers are maintaining vigilance to prevent tensions between the clans from flaring up again.
