The Pride Barcelona march has gathered thousands of people under the slogan 'All Realities, One Pride'. The march, which started from Universitat Square and ended at Lluís Companys promenade, saw the presence of political authorities and activists.

A Reclaiming and Festive Event

The president of the organising committee, Ferran Poca, denounced that the rights of the LGTBIQ+ community are "threatened by the far-right" and condemned the assault suffered by a couple on Thursday at Universitat Square.

Among the attendees were the mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni; the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun; and the councillors Albert Dalmau and Eva Menor. Also participating were deputy mayor Maria Eugènia Gay, the general secretary of ERC Elisenda Alamany, and MEP Terry Reintke.

Call for Freedom and Struggle

Ernest Urtasun stated that they are taking to the streets to live "completely in freedom, without fear" and recalled that he and Reintke were at last year's Pride march in Budapest, which took place despite attempts by the Hungarian government to prevent it.

Urtasun urged not to take "anything for granted" and criticised PP and Vox for voting against banning conversion therapies in Congress. For her part, Terry Reintke highlighted that Spain ranks first in the defence of LGTBIQ+ rights.

Albert Dalmau described Catalunya as a bastion of rights and freedoms, while Eva Menor emphasised support for Barcelona's bid to host WorldPride 2030.

Barcelona, Candidate for WorldPride 2030

Mayor Jaume Collboni highlighted Barcelona's candidacy to host WorldPride 2030, a "meeting point for everyone" especially for those places where rights are threatened.

Collboni stated that the march confirms the city's commitment to LGTBI rights and diversity, recalling that in 1977 Barcelona hosted the first major demonstration for sexual freedom in Spain.

The march featured over 70 organisations and 500 volunteers, many of whom are foreigners who have come to Barcelona to support the cause. The day will conclude with concerts and the reading of the manifesto until dawn.
