An 84-year-old man, a resident of Esparreguera, was rescued this morning at Lluminetes beach in Castelldefels after suffering a drowning episode. The incident occurred around 9:37 AM, when the lifeguards were deploying to begin their daily rescue service.
The victim was found unconscious and not breathing in the water, in front of walkway 19. The rescue team acted immediately: they initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and administered oxygen therapy, managing to get the man to breathe again.
Minutes later, the Medical Emergency System (SEM) took charge of the bather, who was evacuated with spontaneous breathing to continue receiving medical attention at a hospital.
The Castelldefels City Council has highlighted the rapid intervention of the lifeguards, which was decisive in saving the man's life, as well as the collaboration of the Local Police in managing the incident.
The council reminds that the lifeguard service at the beaches of Castelldefels begins every day at 10:00 AM. Therefore, they recommend exercising extra caution during the hours prior and always following the indications of security and emergency services.
This rescue underscores the importance of having lifeguards present on the beaches, even before the official start of the service, and the need for bathers to respect flags and monitored areas.
The incident occurred at Lluminetes beach, one of the busiest in Castelldefels, especially during the summer season. Local authorities have reiterated the call for caution, particularly among elderly individuals and those with health issues.
