The Vox spokesperson in the Parliament, Joan Garriga, has announced the request for the appearance of the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, regarding the error in the Pisa tests, and has criticised the Board of Spokespersons for rejecting to bring the session forward.
The Vox parliamentary group in the Parliament has formally requested the appearance of the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, to explain the error detected in the Pisa tests, which assess the educational performance of Catalan students. This was announced on Tuesday by the spokesperson for the party, Joan Garriga, at a press conference from the Catalan Chamber.
Garriga lamented that the Board of Spokespersons rejected modifying the session calendar so that the appearance could take place this Friday, and accused the Government and its partners of wanting to "go on holiday" without providing explanations. The spokesperson insisted on demanding the resignation of the Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Esther Niubó, whom he holds responsible for the incident.
According to Garriga, the Government would have "cheated" in the selection of the sample of students for the Pisa tests, including students with better abilities to obtain more favourable results. The spokesperson described these actions as a "scam" and asserted that "they wanted to pull the wool over the eyes of all Catalans and the international community."
On another note, Garriga criticised the intention of PSC, Junts, ERC, Comuns, and CUP to reform the Parliament's regulations, which, in his opinion, aims to "muzzle and expel" Vox deputies. The spokesperson denounced that they want to turn the Chamber's Board into a "thought tribunal."
When asked about the application of the Amnesty Law to former councillor Meritxell Serret and four members of the Parliament's Board from 2017 (Lluís María Corominas, Anna Simó, Ramona Maria Barufet, and Lluís Guinó), Garriga stated that they respect judicial rulings, but labelled the law as "very unjust" for citizens. "It is an amnesty law for politicians by politicians, which is just simple nepotism," he pointed out, referring to actions such as disobeying judicial rulings or embezzling public funds.
Regarding the situation of wildfires in Spain, the Vox spokesperson dismissed climate change as a cause and pointed to the "lack of foresight and maintenance" and the "progressive ideologies" that, according to him, prohibit cutting down trees, collecting underbrush, and cleaning waterways. "To combat wildfires, there needs to be prior preventive work that has not been done due to the ideology represented by Pedro Sánchez," he stated.
Finally, Garriga condemned an "attack" suffered by the Vox spokesperson in the Terrassa City Council, who, he claimed, was assaulted in a shopping centre. The spokesperson indicated that the alleged attackers, a group of "Maghrebis," have already been identified, and lamented the lack of expressions of solidarity towards the councillor after the incident.
