El Prat Addresses Ageism at the 2026 Women's Meeting with the Motto 'Age Matters'

The Women's Meeting in El Prat de Llobregat returns on September 19 with an edition focused on ageism, under the motto 'Age Matters: Let's Break Stereotypes'. The event, which marks the start of the feminist year in the city, will take place throughout the day and will offer a space for reflection and training for women of all ages.

Ageism, a discrimination that particularly affects older women, is the central theme of the day. The organisation aims to highlight the contributions of women at all stages of life and advocate for the right to age without prejudice or inequalities. The meeting is designed from a feminist and intersectional perspective to address how age-related stereotypes impact the daily lives of women.

The programme will kick off with a central talk that will delve into the effects of ageism and provide tools to combat it. Following this, attendees can choose from three participatory workshops: 'One Life, Many Women', led by Clara Hernando, psychologist from the SIAD/SAI of the El Prat City Council; 'Self-Love in Motion', with Esther Casas; and 'Menopause with Vitality', with Paola Aguirre. These practical spaces will address well-being, self-care, and empowerment from different perspectives.

Registrations to participate in the day will open on September 7 and can be formalised by sending an email to dones@elprat.cat, indicating the desired workshop. The organisation has confirmed that there will be childcare services available to facilitate the attendance of mothers with young children; this must be requested at the time of registration.

The Women's Meeting has established itself as a key event in the local feminist calendar, providing a point of reunion after the summer. Previous editions have addressed topics such as diverse feminisms or male violence, and this year the focus is on a discrimination that is often overlooked. Women over 65 years old are the group most affected by ageism, which manifests in areas such as health, work, or social participation.

The El Prat City Council encourages all women in the municipality and the region to participate in this day, which aims to be a space for networking and sharing experiences. The event is on Saturday, September 19, and places are limited, so it is recommended to register as soon as possible from September 7.
