The Vilanova company Vida Senior Vilanova has been awarded the contract to manage the Josefa Puigpelat geriatric residence and day centre in El Prat de Llobregat. It surpassed Quavitae, a subsidiary of the DomusVi group, with 89.62 points out of 100.

This is reflected in the awarding record from the metropolitan council, which grants the Catalan company 89.62 points out of 100, compared to the 71.25 points of its only rival, Quavitae Servicios Asistenciales, a subsidiary of the DomusVi group.
The award represents a setback for DomusVi, a controversial group whose reach extends throughout the sector and whose parent company is taxed in the island of Jersey. DomusVi has historically been one of the companies that has shared the pie of the Home Care Service (SAD) in Barcelona. In all aspects of the tender, with the sole exception of the accredited additional experience, Vida Senior Vilanova scored better than Quavitae.
The Nadie Sin Recursos Association also submitted a bid but was excluded from the process for not having the minimum experience of four years managing similar services. The Josefa Puigpelat residence, which is publicly owned, has generated controversy due to the fixed price of 2,700 euros per month per resident, a fee that has been criticized by Comuns, PSC, and ERC in the municipal plenary, which rejected lowering it.
The facility includes a dining room for 10 people and a day centre with a capacity for 30 people. The private management of a public service has been the centre of local political debate. Vida Senior Vilanova, which already operates other residences in the province, will take over management in the coming months, according to the schedule set out in the terms of reference.
The Vilanova company has stood out in its proposal for its quality of care and economic efficiency, according to sources from the El Prat City Council. The award represents a boost for Vida Senior Vilanova, reinforcing its presence in the geriatric sector of the metropolitan area of Barcelona. For the residents of El Prat, the new residence will offer places at a high price that has generated rejection among the municipal opposition.
The council defends that the private management model ensures a quality service without overburdening public finances. However, left-wing groups believe that the fees are unaffordable for most families. The Josefa Puigpelat residence is expected to open its doors throughout the next year, once the administrative procedures and building adaptations are completed.
