The establishment in the plaza de la Vila has closed its doors for good. The owner, Cristóbal Ferre, has sold the business after eight years at the helm.
The 'La Font' restaurant, located in the plaza de la Vila in Sant Adrià de Besòs, has permanently closed its doors. The venue, which became a meeting point for locals for nearly a decade, has passed into new hands following the decision of its owner, Cristóbal Ferre, to part with the business.
The farewell did not go unnoticed. The establishment organised a party with a DJ that lasted for hours and was attended by hundreds of people. Many wanted to say a final goodbye to a space that, according to Ferre, has been "a home" for the city.
"I have created a home and the affection and love from the people is my reward. I leave happy," declared the 42-year-old restaurateur in a conversation with Metrópoli. Ferre asserts that the affection received from customers has been his best payment after eight years of work.
This was not Ferre's first hospitality venture. He previously ran another establishment with the same name on Velázquez Street, also in Sant Adrià, which was known for the quality of its cuisine and, in particular, for its cheesecakes. "We sold 15 a week," he proudly recalled.
Despite the success, the path has not been easy. Ferre admits that, had he been able, he would have continued for a few more years, but he acknowledges that the lack of institutional support weighed on his decision. The restaurateur criticises some sanctions he considers "unjust" and the "little backing" from the municipal government led by Filo Cañete towards local businesses.
"To take its toll," summarises Ferre about the accumulated weariness. The relationship with the Sant Adrià de Besòs City Council was not as desired, and that ultimately influenced his departure.
The closure of 'La Font' represents a loss for the commercial fabric of the plaza de la Vila, a space that has seen one of its most emblematic establishments shut down. Locals lose a reference point where, in addition to dining, events and meetings were held.
For now, it is unknown what business will occupy the premises. What is clear is that Cristóbal Ferre's era at the helm of 'La Font' has come to an end, leaving an indelible memory among those who frequented it.
