The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested four young men for attacking pedestrians in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat with knives and scooters. The arrests occurred between June and July following two separate investigations.
The Mossos d'Esquadra have detained four young men, aged between 24 and 33, accused of being involved in a wave of violent robberies on the streets of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. The assailants, who operated in pairs, threatened their victims with knives to steal mobile phones and gold chains, and in some cases did not hesitate to assault pedestrians who tried to resist or chase them. The arrests, which correspond to two different investigations, took place on June 22 and on July 2, 6, and 17.
Robbery on Avenida de Catalunya with Knife and Scooter
The first case occurred on June 22, around 15:30, on the Avenida de Catalunya. Two young men, aged 24 and 26, followed a woman who was walking with her young son. One of them lunged at her and threatened her with a knife to hand over her mobile phone. The victim tried to resist, but the thieves fled on an electric scooter.
Shortly after, the woman located one of the alleged thieves on the Avenida del Bosc and asked a neighbour for help to alert the police. Mossos agents arrived at the scene and arrested the 26-year-old, who put up strong resistance and even slightly injured two officers. The other suspect managed to escape but was identified thanks to security cameras and arrested on July 6 on Calle del Comerç, when officers recognised him for wearing the same t-shirt as on the day of the robbery.
The first detainee is charged with robbery with violence, assaulting an officer, and two counts of minor injuries. The second is charged with robbery with violence. Both have 24 prior criminal records and were brought before the L'Hospitalet Investigating Court.
Gold Chain Snatch on Avenida de América
The second case took place on July 2, at 11:15, on the Avenida de América. A 27-year-old man ripped a gold chain from the neck of a woman who was walking in the area. Several witnesses began to chase him to a park on the Rambla de la Marina, where a second individual, aged 33, appeared with a knife and threatened one of the pursuers, who fell to the ground and suffered injuries to his knee and leg.
Both fled, but the Investigation Unit located the flat where they had taken refuge, on the same Rambla de la Marina, and arrested the perpetrator of the snatch. The second man was not located until July 17. The first is accused of robbery with violence and intimidation, and the second as an accomplice. Both were brought before the courts.
Residents of L'Hospitalet have expressed their concern about the wave of robberies that has been reported in recent weeks. The police recommend exercising extreme caution when walking in the street, especially during less busy hours, and not to resist during an assault to avoid serious injuries.
"It is important for victims to always report and provide any details that may help identify the criminals," sources from the investigation state.
The Mossos d'Esquadra are continuing both investigations and do not rule out further arrests related to these events. Citizen cooperation and reviewing security cameras have been crucial in resolving the cases.
