The Bombers de la Generalitat have deployed 50 personnel and eight aerial resources to control a wildfire in Cubelles. Civil Protection has activated the Infocat plan alert and has confined over 2,500 people in several urbanisations.
A wildfire declared this Saturday in the municipality of Cubelles (Garraf) has mobilised around fifty personnel from the Bombers de la Generalitat and has forced the confinement of over 2,500 residents from various urbanisations in the area. The fire alert was received at 16:18 hours via the emergency phone number 112, according to sources from the fire department.
The Bombers are working on two fronts of the fire and have deployed 25 ground vehicles and eight aerial resources to try to contain the flames. The aerial resources have managed to minimise the chances of the fire spreading to the urbanisations, although the right flank of the fire is generating secondary hotspots at a short distance, as detailed by the Bombers.
Civil Protection of the Generalitat has activated the alert of the Infocat plan and has ordered the confinement of residents through an Es-Alert message sent to mobile phones in the area. The measure affects the urbanisations of La Costa Cunit, in Cunit (Tarragona), and the sectors Trencarroques, La Creu and Cal Candi, in Castellet i la Gornal (Barcelona). In total, it is estimated that around 2,516 people are confined in their homes.
The authorities have asked the affected residents to close doors and windows of their homes, not to go outside, and to follow the instructions of the emergency services. Citizens have also been requested not to approach the area of the fire to facilitate the extinguishing efforts.
The meteorological context is particularly adverse: a total of 195 municipalities in 19 Catalan counties present an extreme risk of wildfire this Saturday, according to the Rural Agents of the Generalitat. High temperatures and accumulated drought increase the probability of new fires starting.
In parallel, Civil Protection has also activated the alert of its flood plan Inuncat this Saturday due to the forecast of heavy rains in the northeast and the central and southern coast of Catalonia, especially in the counties of Garrotxa and Selva, in Girona. The coincidence of both risks keeps emergency services across the community on alert.
The Bombers continue to work on extinguishing the fire and it is not ruled out that the confinement may be extended in the coming hours if wind conditions worsen. Residents in the area are advised to stay informed through the official channels of Civil Protection and to avoid unnecessary travel.
For residents in the province of Barcelona planning to travel to the Garraf area, it is advisable to check the state of the roads and follow traffic indications. The fire is not currently affecting main roads, but smoke may reduce visibility in some sections.
