The Town Hall of Terrassa will welcome footballer Dani Olmo next September, after he was crowned world champion with the Spanish national team on July 19.
The Town Hall of Terrassa has announced that it will organise an official reception for footballer Dani Olmo, a native of the city, following his recent world title with the Spanish national team. The event is scheduled for next September, once the schedules of the player and municipal authorities can be coordinated, according to sources from the council.
Dani Olmo, midfielder for FC Barcelona, was trained in the youth categories of Terrassa FC, his hometown club. On July 19, Spain became world champions, and Olmo played a prominent role in the tournament. This is not the first time Terrassa has honoured the footballer: two years ago, after winning the European Championship, the Town Hall organised a reception on the council balcony in front of a crowd of locals.
In addition to the welcome event, the council plans to inaugurate the Cruyff Court Dani Olmo during the autumn, a new football pitch that will bear his name. The facility will be located in the Montserrat sports complex and will be made possible thanks to an agreement with the Johan Cruyff Foundation, which will grant the space to the Town Hall.
The reception in September will be an open event for the public, although the details of the location and time have yet to be finalised. The Town Hall has stated that information will be provided in advance so that locals can participate in the tribute to one of the city's most illustrious athletes.
Dani Olmo, 28, is a regular in the Spanish national team call-ups and has spent much of his career in European football, first at Dinamo Zagreb and then at RB Leipzig, before joining FC Barcelona. His ties to Terrassa remain very strong, and the city has wanted to recognise his achievements with this new gesture.
