The municipal government of Sitges will submit the lease of the Patronat building for a bookstore, which will include a multipurpose hall for cultural events and a tasting area, for plenary approval this Wednesday. The contract is set for 12 years, with the possibility of extension.
The ordinary plenary session of the Sitges Town Hall this July will debate the government team's proposal to award the lease contract for the Patronat building, which will house a bookstore, starting at 16:00 hours. The building, located in the town centre, will also feature a multipurpose hall for cultural events and a tasting space, aiming to revive a bookstore in the municipality and energise the cultural offering.
The lease contract has been set for an initial period of 12 years, with the possibility of extending it for three more years. The initiative, driven by the local government, seeks to respond to residents' demands for a reference bookstore in Sitges, which will also serve as a meeting point for literary and social activities.
Another key item on the agenda is the initial approval of the Regulations for the municipal nurseries El Cercolet and La Moixiganga. This document, which has been developed based on the work of a study commission created in the January plenary, regulates the organisation of the centres, the participation of the educational community, the rules of coexistence, and the disciplinary regime for minor infractions by students. The regulations also establish mediation mechanisms and applicable corrective measures.
The plenary will also address the update of the Strategic Grant Plan and several budget modifications to finance projects in the areas of Social Rights and Legal Advice and Defence. These funds will help meet unforeseen needs and strengthen municipal services in these areas.
In the motions section, the municipal group of Vox will present two proposals. The first urges intensifying police activity against crime by the Sitges Local Police. The second proposes the censure of the mayor, Aurora Carbonell i Abella, and her government, formed by ERC and Sitges GI, for the situation that, according to the group, the municipality is experiencing and the minority that supports the local executive.
The plenary session, held in the Town Hall's assembly room, can be followed live through the corporation's YouTube channel, as well as on Ràdio Maricel and Canal Blau TV. The local government hopes that the approval of the lease of the Patronat will be a definitive step for Sitges to once again have a stable bookstore, a service that many residents have been requesting for years and which, according to municipal sources, will help strengthen the cultural fabric of the town.
