The July Plenary has approved the contracting file for the nursery schools Camí del Bosc, Can Casamada, and Mitja Costa, which includes salary increases, reduced hours, and more support staff.
The Plenary of the Montcada i Reixac City Council, held last Thursday, July 23, gave the green light to the contracting file for the management of the three municipal nursery schools: Camí del Bosc, Can Casamada, and Mitja Costa. The new contract incorporates labour improvements agreed upon with the staff and an annual budget increase of 150,000 euros compared to the previous one.
The Councillor for Education, Anabel Moreno, highlighted during the session that “this is a tender we have worked hard on to make a qualitative leap in the service and improve the conditions of the teaching team.” The contract has a maximum global cost of 6.5 million euros, including the current year, two possible extensions, and potential legal increases.
Among the most relevant new features, the document includes the latest salary updates from the collective agreement of the sector and will positively score companies that offer additional salary improvements. Furthermore, the status of Early Childhood Teacher is recognised: those who hold the qualification will see their salary increased and their working hours reduced from 38 to 32 hours per week, following the guidelines of the agreement.
The Dapsi psychopedagogical care service is consolidated with 20 monthly hours in each centre, ensuring psychological, pedagogical, and therapeutic support for children, as well as family guidance. The staff is also reinforced: support educators will increase their hours by six per week, and two assistants will be incorporated in centres with their own kitchens (Can Casamada and Camí del Bosc). A maintenance worker role is created for minor repairs, in coordination with the council.
Regarding the duration of the contract, it will be for one year and eight months to end at the conclusion of the school year, avoiding changes mid-year. Two possible extensions are contemplated. Additionally, the centres must have a laptop, tablets, and a printer, and companies providing additional devices will be valued.
At the same time, the Plenary approved a credit modification of 1,500 euros to prepare a study analysing the best management model for the service —currently under indirect management— and assessing the feasibility of municipalisation, a long-standing demand from the workers of the nursery schools.
The annual cost of the service is set at 617,000 euros for Camí del Bosc, 616,300 euros for Can Casamada, and 395,500 euros for Mitja Costa, figures calculated according to the characteristics and dimensions of each centre. These amounts represent a global increase of 150,000 euros annually compared to the previous contract.
Families in Montcada i Reixac will benefit from greater stability in the service, with improved educational attention and early detection of needs. The new contract aims to ensure the continuity and quality of municipal nurseries, providing security for both families and the educational community. The study on municipalisation is expected to be ready in the coming months.
