The city council collaborates with the Museum Monastery of Pedralbes to highlight the figure of Elisenda de Montcada, founder of the monastery seven centuries ago.

The councillor for Culture and Cultural Heritage of Montcada i Reixac, accompanied by municipal technicians, met on July 16 with the director of the Museum Monastery of Pedralbes, Anna Castellano, to establish a collaboration for the 700th anniversary of the monastery's foundation. The meeting, which took place at the same Barcelona monastery, served to define the first joint actions.

The Montcada i Reixac City Council wants to take advantage of the anniversary to highlight the figure of Elisenda de Montcada and Pinós, consort queen of Aragon and founder of the monastery in 1326. Her connection to the municipality is close, as she belonged to the Montcada lineage, one of the most important noble families in medieval Catalonia.

Among the planned activities, the participation of the giantess Elisenda de Montcada in a gathering of giantesses named Elisenda stands out, which will take place during the Les Corts Major Festival. Additionally, a conference will be organized on the life of Elisenda de Montcada and her relationship with the monastery, and the documentary 'Pedralbes: awakening the queen' will be screened.

The commemorative program also includes an exhibition and activities at the municipal library of Montcada i Reixac, all aimed at bringing the historical figure of the queen closer to the public. The initiative is supported by the Institute of Culture of Barcelona and the Government of Catalonia, which has declared the Year of the Monastery of Pedralbes.

The commemoration will run from March 26, 2026, to May 3, 2027, with a wide range of cultural, educational, and heritage proposals. The aim is to raise awareness of the history of the monastery as one of the great references of Catalan heritage.

The councillor for Culture has highlighted the importance of recovering the memory of Elisenda de Montcada, a key figure in Catalan medieval history, and has encouraged residents to participate in the planned events. For her part, Anna Castellano has positively assessed the collaboration with the municipality, which will allow for synergies between both museums.

Activities in Montcada i Reixac will begin in the coming months, with the intention of keeping the legacy of the queen and her connection to the territory alive. Interested parties can consult the complete program on the municipal website and that of the Museum Monastery of Pedralbes.
