The 16-year-old athlete from CN Jaén achieves two golds, a bronze, and two finals at the Junior National Championships held in Sabadell.
The swimmer Aurora Martínez Navarro from Club Natación Jaén has been the standout performer at the Junior National Championships held at the pool in Sabadell. At just 16 years old, the athlete from Jaén has secured two national titles, a bronze medal, and two finalist positions, establishing herself as one of the most promising talents in Spanish long-distance swimming.
The competition, which brought together the best young swimmers in the country at the facilities of Club Natació Sabadell, began for Martínez with a sixth place in the 100 meters freestyle, where she improved her personal best to 58.76 seconds. The following day, the swimmer delivered a double high-level performance: she finished fourth in the 200 meters freestyle (2:04.91) and, minutes later, was crowned Spanish champion in the 800 meters freestyle with a time of 9:02.93, also a personal best.
On Saturday, Aurora Martínez climbed to the top of the podium again by winning the 400 meters freestyle with a time of 4:21.29. She executed the race with a very solid strategy and a powerful final stretch that allowed her to claim her second gold of the championship. The Jaén athlete's participation concluded with a bronze in the 1,500 meters freestyle, a race in which she experienced dizziness in the early meters but managed to complete the distance to secure another medal.
Training since the age of three at CN Jaén, Martínez joined the Special Sports Technification Centre (CETD) in Málaga two seasons ago, funded by the Andalusian Swimming Federation. There, she trains under the guidance of José Antonio Romacho, who specializes in middle-distance, long-distance, and open water events. Her progress allowed her to represent the Spanish Open Water Team last season following her results in the World Cup.
This year, she was also the runner-up in Spain in the 3,000 Knockout event held in Ibiza, although a collective disqualification in the 7,500 meters, while she was leading, prevented her from repeating an international call-up. Looking ahead to the next season, the swimmer will continue to prepare for open water competitions from the CETD in Málaga.
Aurora Martínez's performance in Sabadell not only strengthens her candidacy for future international selections but also highlights the grassroots work of CN Jaén and the Andalusian technification programme. The swimmer, who balances training with her studies, has become an example for young athletes in the province of Jaén and throughout Andalusia.
The Junior National Championships, organized by the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation, have served as a benchmark for the national talent pool ahead of upcoming international commitments. In the case of Aurora Martínez, her times in the 800 and 400 meters freestyle place her among the best in her age group in Europe.
