A 53-year-old man, a resident of Vilanova i la Geltrú, died on Monday at noon in a traffic accident on the N-340, near Santa Margarida i els Monjos. The motorcycle he was riding collided head-on with a truck.

The incident, which occurred just before noon, involved a head-on collision between the motorcycle driven by the victim and a truck.
According to sources from the Catalan Traffic Service, the motorcyclist, aged 53, was left seriously injured after the impact. Several units of the Mossos d’Esquadra, the Bombers de la Generalitat, and a medicalised unit from the SEM were dispatched to the scene. The medical staff attempted to resuscitate the injured man, but could only confirm his death.
The truck driver was unharmed in the accident, according to the same sources. The investigation of the case has been handed over to the Traffic area of the Mossos, who will try to clarify the causes of the incident. So far, no further details about the circumstances of the collision have been provided.
This is the second fatal accident recorded on Monday on Catalan roads. Hours later, around six in the evening, another incident occurred on the GI-623, in Viladamat (Alt Empordà), where a driver died and two occupants of another vehicle were seriously injured after a head-on collision.
With the death of this motorcyclist, a total of 80 people have lost their lives on the roads of Catalonia so far this year, according to provisional data from the Catalan Traffic Service. A figure that, unfortunately, continues to rise and highlights the need for increased caution while driving.
The incident has caused great distress in Vilanova i la Geltrú, the victim's place of residence. No further personal details about the deceased have been released pending notification to their family.
The N-340 is a high-accident road in the Alt Penedès section, where various serious accidents have occurred in recent years. Authorities recommend maximum attention on this road, especially at intersections and merging areas.
