CE Sabadell has announced the signing of Gonzalo Ávila ‘Pipa’, a 28-year-old right-back, who arrives as a free agent after his time at Bulgarian Ludogorets. He is the seventh addition to the club for their return to Segunda División.

CE Sabadell continues to shape its squad ahead of the imminent return to Segunda División. This Tuesday, the club has officially announced the signing of Gonzalo Ávila, known in football as ‘Pipa’, a 28-year-old right-back who arrives with a free transfer after finishing his contract with Bulgarian Ludogorets.

‘Pipa’ becomes the seventh new face at Sabadell in this transfer market. The player, born in Catalonia, joins Nova Creu Alta to provide depth on the right flank, both in the full-back position and in more advanced roles on the wing. His offensive profile and speed are two of the qualities that have led the club to invest in him.

The new Sabadell player has extensive experience, with 44 matches in Segunda División, 7 in Primera, and over a hundred appearances in foreign competitions, including the English Championship, the Bulgarian league, and qualifying rounds for the Champions League and Conference League. He has also played 13 matches in the Europa League.

Pipa’s career began in the youth academy of RCD Espanyol, the club where he made his debut in Primera División and in European competition. During his time with the perico team, he was even capped at youth levels for the Spanish national team, specifically with the U19 and U21 teams. He was later loaned to Nàstic de Tarragona and Burgos, where he gained minutes in the second tier.

After leaving Espanyol, he embarked on an international career that took him to English Huddersfield Town, Greek Olympiacos, Bulgarian Ludogorets, and West Bromwich Albion. In Bulgaria, he won the league title twice, a background that Sabadell hopes will bring leadership and experience to their dressing room.

The CE Sabadell board continues to work on assembling a competitive squad that can face the return to the second tier of Spanish football with guarantees, after achieving promotion last season. The arrival of ‘Pipa’ strengthens a position that the coaching staff considered a priority.

The player, who has expressed excitement in his first statements after signing, will join the coach in the coming days to integrate into the group’s dynamics. He is expected to make his debut in the upcoming pre-season friendlies wearing the arlequinada jersey.

With this signing, Sabadell adds a proven player who knows Segunda División well and, despite his youth, has notable international experience. The arlequinada fans hope that ‘Pipa’ will be a reliable reinforcement for the ambitious project that has been set in motion.
