The Barcelona City Council has activated the Municipal Action Plan in alert phase due to level 3 of the Alfa Plan from the Generalitat and the very high risk of wildfires.
The Barcelona City Council activated the Municipal Action Plan for Wildfire Risk in alert phase on Friday, after the Generalitat of Catalonia declared level 3 of the Alfa Plan in Barcelonés. This measure responds to the very high risk of wildfires affecting the city, especially in the Collserola mountain range.
According to municipal sources, today is one of the days with the highest wildfire risk in the Catalan capital since the beginning of the year. Therefore, the seven fire stations in Barcelona will remain on alert due to the possibility of a wildfire. Specific resources have been reserved for Collserola, the city's main green area.
The activation of the plan involves mobilising emergency teams and coordinating with the Generalitat's Fire Department. The Barcelona firefighters have already deployed their resources across the nearly 1,800 hectares of forested land within the municipal boundaries, spread across the districts of Les Corts, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, Horta-Guinardó, and Nou Barris.
The Barcelona Firefighters' forest campaign began in early June and will continue until mid-September. During this period, the Civil Protection, Fire Prevention and Extinction, and Rescue Service (SPCPEIS) reinforces its personnel to provide a rapid response to summer fires.
The City Council reminds that, since March 15, it has been prohibited to carry out forestry work or any action that could generate sparks within 500 meters of forested areas. This ban includes burning waste and barbecuing in unapproved areas.
Level 3 of the Alfa Plan, activated by the Generalitat, represents the highest alert for wildfire risk. In this scenario, access to natural spaces is restricted and preventive measures are intensified. Authorities urge maximum caution from the public and cooperation to avoid any ignition sources.
Residents of areas adjacent to Collserola, such as the neighbourhoods of Vallvidrera, Les Planes, or Sant Just Desvern, must exercise heightened vigilance and follow the instructions of emergency services. It is recommended not to make fires, not to throw cigarette butts, or leave waste that could act as fuel.
The Barcelona City Council has set up a specific communication channel to inform about the evolution of the risk and the measures taken. Citizens can consult the municipal website or follow the official Civil Protection accounts to stay updated on any news.
The weather forecast for the coming hours indicates high temperatures and moderate winds, conditions that increase the fire danger. Firefighters remind that, at any sign of smoke or fire, one should immediately call 112.
