A 41-year-old household employee has been arrested by the Mossos d'Esquadra accused of stealing jewellery and money worth 390,000 euros from various homes in Barcelona, Sant Cugat del Vallès, and Sant Pere de Vilamajor. A second woman has been arrested for receiving stolen goods.

The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested a 41-year-old household employee accused of stealing jewellery and money totalling 390,000 euros from various homes in Barcelona and its surroundings, including Sant Cugat del Vallès. The investigation, led by the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi Investigation Unit, began after a victim reported the theft.

The incidents occurred between the months of February and June of this year in residences located in Barcelona, Sant Cugat del Vallès, and Sant Pere de Vilamajor. In total, the agents have identified six victims, although more affected parties may come to light.

They sold the jewellery at gold buying shops

According to the police investigation, once the jewellery was obtained, the main suspect would go with the second arrested woman, aged 36, to various gold buying establishments to sell the stolen items. The Mossos have been able to confirm sales amounting to 37,700 euros, although the total value of the stolen jewellery and money amounts to nearly 390,000 euros.

The second woman was arrested for an alleged crime of receiving stolen goods, as she was responsible for selling part of the stolen material. Both women were placed at the disposal of the judiciary on 15 July.

Jewellery found during home search

The main suspect was arrested on 4 June at one of the homes where she worked. During the intervention, the agents located ten pieces of jewellery, including gold chains, rings, and earrings, as well as a receipt from a shop specialising in gold buying.

Subsequent actions allowed the connection of the two women to new criminal acts and the recovery of part of the stolen jewellery, which has already been returned to its rightful owners. The 41-year-old woman is accused of a crime of burglary and six counts of theft, while the second arrested woman will face charges for two alleged crimes of receiving stolen goods.

Advice for the residents of Sant Cugat

The Mossos recommend that residents of Sant Cugat and the rest of the province of Barcelona take extra precautions when hiring domestic services. It is advisable to request references and, whenever possible, not to leave jewellery or large amounts of money within reach. The investigation remains open and further arrests are not ruled out.

For any suspicions, citizens can contact the nearest Mossos d'Esquadra police station or call 112. Citizen collaboration has been key in this case to identify the alleged perpetrators.
