Badalona has installed a 450 m2 platform to advance the rehabilitation of the Pont del Petroli, with works expected to finish between September and October 2026.
Badalona is making progress in the recovery of one of its most important symbols with the installation of a 450 square metre floating platform that will facilitate marine works for the reform of the Pont del Petroli.
This platform has been transported and anchored on the seabed near the bridge, allowing the use of a crane to transport and place materials necessary for the rehabilitation of this emblematic structure.
Technical details of the platform and works on the Pont del Petroli
The barge, measuring 450 square metres, has been towed from the port of Badalona to its final location at the Pont del Petroli, approximately one and a half kilometres away, according to sources from the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB).
The civil engineer of the AMB, David Aguilar, has indicated that the works are expected to be completed between September and October 2026. He also highlights that summer is the most suitable time to carry out these works due to favourable sea conditions.
Importance for Badalona and phases of rehabilitation
The second deputy mayor of the Badalona City Council, Daniel Gracia, has expressed the significance of this advancement for the city, stating that the installation of the platform marks the beginning of a new phase in the recovery of this local symbol.
This phase will include the assembly of pieces manufactured out of the water, aiming to strengthen the structure to make it less vulnerable to storms, as occurred with the Gloria storm in 2020 that damaged the bridge's beams.
For his part, the manager of the AMB, Ramon Torra, has highlighted the technical complexity of the project to ensure the bridge's resistance against future adverse weather events.
Investment and future of Badalona's promenade
The City Council and the AMB have allocated a total investment of 4,082,786.64 euros for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Pont del Petroli, which has a length of 234.5 metres and a width of 3.2 metres. The final platform will have an approximate surface area of 130 square metres.
The works are expected to conclude by the end of 2026, but the project does not end here. The council has announced that in 2027 it will continue the transformation of the waterfront, with plans to raise part of the current promenade and relocate the Llevant collector.
This intervention is necessary to enable a new promenade that will improve the connection and enjoyment of Badalona's coast, directly benefiting the residents and visitors of the city.
With these works, Badalona reaffirms its commitment to the recovery and modernization of its emblematic spaces, restoring heritage and improving the quality of life for its population.
The works on the Pont del Petroli represent a decisive step for the city to recover one of its most cherished symbols and advance its commitment to sustainability and protection against climatic phenomena.
The citizens of Badalona can follow the progress of the works through the official channels of the City Council and the AMB, with the expectation that the improvements can be fully enjoyed by the end of this year.
