More than a thousand people participated in the 10th Bages Tomato Festival, which filled Manresa with gastronomic activities throughout the week. The market on Saturday sold 1,300 kilos of tomatoes from 27 different varieties.

The 10th Bages Tomato Festival concluded this weekend in Manresa with a very positive balance. Over 1,000 people enjoyed the activities scheduled throughout the week, with full attendance at most events.

The star event was the Tomato Market, held on Saturday at Passeig de Pere III. About fifteen local producers sold 1,300 kilos of tomatoes from 27 different varieties, as well as other products like cheeses, liqueurs, beer, and wine from Bages.

The market attracted more than 700 visitors, who were able to taste and purchase local products. The tapas made with tomatoes served around 350 people, and the Tomato Dinner gathered 197 diners.

The day included tastings and workshops. Bernat Martí Munté offered a tomato tasting, while the brewery The Goats Alternative Project presented its craft beers. Sommelier Jaume Pont Alegre from Setè Cel - Vins i Delicatessen conducted a wine and cheese pairing. Jordi Llobet Gómez led a cooking workshop using tomatoes from the region.

Throughout Saturday, the wine bars of the wineries on the DO Pla de Bages Wine Route (Artium, Abadal, and Fargas-Fargas) offered wine pairings accompanied by plates featuring local tomatoes.

The tenth edition has established itself as a gastronomic reference in Central Catalonia, attracting a diverse audience, not only from Bages but also from neighboring regions. The cooking demonstrations and product tastings were the most requested activities, demonstrating that tasting is key to convincing the public of the quality of local products.

The success of the event has been made possible thanks to the involvement of entities, bars, restaurants, and market vendors. In total, 23 events have invited participants to learn about local products and reflect on the importance of responsible, sustainable, and local consumption.

The festival will continue on Friday, August 7, with La Tumakada, a free activity for extracting tomato seeds and making preserves to utilise the pulp, which will take place at the Agricultural School of Manresa.

The organisation has thanked all participating entities for their collaboration: Manresa City Council, ADV of Bages and Central Catalonia, Alimentem Manresa, Cooperative Athenium of Central Catalonia, Bages Impuls!, Slow Food of Central Catalonia, Bages County Council, El Rebost del Bages, Agricultural School of Manresa, Manresa Tourist Assets, Museums and Fairs, L’Era, Mengembages, and Parc de la Sèquia.
