Hundreds of residents of Castelldefels filled the plaça de l’Església on 18 July for Dissabte Solidari, established as an annual event of cooperation and solidarity.

The Dissabte Solidari of Castelldefels once again demonstrated the strength of local solidarity. The event, held on 18 July, brought together hundreds of people in the plaça de l’Església, which became a hub of activities, music, and awareness. Organised by the Municipal Council for Peace and Solidarity, the event featured the participation of nine solidarity entities showcasing their projects both in the municipality and in developing countries.

Local Entities, Key Players in Cooperation

The nine participating entities were: Advance4Africa, Associació Castelldefels Sàhara, Etyops - Mans per Etiòpia, Grup de Dones de Castelldefels, Malaika Solidària, Malaria 40, Mans Unides, Rotary Club, and Solidaritat Castelldefels Kasando. Each set up an information stall to promote their initiatives, from educational projects in Africa to humanitarian aid in the Sahara. Residents were able to purchase fair trade crafts and sample typical products from various regions.

The Akwaba Foundation organised a workshop for personalising fair trade bags, combining creativity and reflection on responsible consumption. This activity, designed for all audiences, successfully engaged entire families in a discussion about the importance of choosing ethical products.

Music and Performances for Awareness

Music was one of the main attractions of the evening. Families enjoyed the show Gaspatxo de colors, performed by the group Més Tumàcat, which combined songs and games for the little ones. Following that, the Catalan rumba of Sicus Carbonell livened up the evening, and the grand finale was a cover concert by Fugados de Alcatraz, which got attendees dancing until the end.

The combination of leisure and solidarity is the key to the success of Dissabte Solidari. As the organisers pointed out, the event allows “to bring the reality of cooperation projects closer to the public in an enjoyable and participatory way”.

“Solidarity is not just about giving, but also about knowing and sharing,”
highlighted a spokesperson from the Municipal Council for Peace and Solidarity.

A Consolidated Event That Grows Each Year

The Dissabte Solidari has become an unmissable event in the Castelldefels calendar. This year's edition recorded a record attendance, demonstrating the commitment of residents to solidarity causes. For the entities, it is a unique opportunity to attract new members and volunteers, as well as to raise funds for their projects.

The Castelldefels City Council, through the Municipal Council for Peace and Solidarity, is already working on the next edition, which promises new features. Meanwhile, those who could not attend can still support the entities through their usual channels. Solidarity in Castelldefels knows no dates.
