The company Big Bouncers has developed several contemporary dance proposals in El Prat de Llobregat from May to July, combining community creation, performances, and participatory activities.
This summer, El Prat de Llobregat has been the stage for an intense programme of contemporary dance led by the company Big Bouncers, in collaboration with the municipal programme Arts en Viu. From May to July, the collective has developed three projects that have involved locals of all ages, from the creation of a community piece to public performances.
The first of these was La Nit en Dansa, an initiative from the Jardins de la Pau Civic Centre. Over two months, a group of around thirty locals worked with the company in a scenic creation process that culminated in the presentation of El nostre tempo. The piece, based on body, voice, and word, advocated movement through humour, play, and poetry, bringing together different generations. As is tradition, the showcase ended with an open dance that turned the square into a space of shared celebration.
At the same time, the summer programme Teatre a l'ombra from Teatre L'Artesà also included Big Bouncers. On Sunday, July 5, the Jardins de la Pau hosted Plata, a delocalised proposal that incorporated the participation of city residents after an intensive rehearsal period. The piece, through movement, repetition, and collective play, gradually transformed the public space into a shared experience.
Dance for All Ages at Sala Josep Costa
A week later, on July 12, Balladx V invited children, families, and audiences of all ages to experience dance through play and participation. The Sala Josep Costa was transformed into a cave full of laughter and colourful ribbons, thanks to the choreography of Mireia de Querol and Cecilia Colacrai from Big Bouncers, and the music of João Lima as DJ.
These proposals exemplify Arts en Viu's commitment to establishing collaborations that go beyond mere performance exhibitions. The aim is to generate processes of creation, participation, and mediation that connect contemporary dance with the community, offering quality artistic programming in various spaces in El Prat.
A Summer of Community Creation
The initiative has allowed contemporary dance to leave theatres and reach public spaces and civic centres, bringing it closer to audiences who may not usually engage with it. Big Bouncers has demonstrated that dance can be a tool for social cohesion, involving locals in the creative process and offering performances that invite active participation.
For the residents of El Prat, this programming has provided a unique opportunity to enjoy contemporary dance in a close and participatory environment. The combination of workshops, rehearsals, and performances has created a bond between the company and the community, which has responded with enthusiasm.
