The Castelldefels City Council has activated the pre-alert of the civil protection plan due to the risk of intense heat. The episode is expected on Sunday, August 9, with highs potentially exceeding 36.6 degrees.

The Castelldefels City Council has activated the pre-alert of the Civil Protection Plan due to the risk of intense heat, according to forecasts from the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (SMC) and the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). The episode is expected to manifest strongly during the day on Sunday, August 9, between 08:00 and 20:00 hours.

A low probability, between 10% and 30%, is forecasted for exceeding the maximum temperature threshold of 36.6 degrees. The danger level has been set at moderate (1/6).

In light of this situation, the council has requested various municipal action groups to adopt preventive measures immediately. Among these, it highlights enhancing the use of municipal climate shelters to provide recovery and thermal comfort spaces for citizens.

It has also been requested to maintain special attention and reinforce monitoring of the most vulnerable individuals, as well as to consider adopting preventive measures for outdoor activities, especially during peak radiation and temperature hours.

The City Council reminds citizens of the main self-protection recommendations. At home, it is advised to close the blinds of windows that receive direct sunlight during the day and open them at night to cool the home.

It is also recommended to stay in the coolest rooms and use air conditioning or ventilation systems. For those without air conditioning, it is suggested to spend the hottest hours in air-conditioned places in the city, such as libraries or municipal facilities that serve as climate shelters.

When outdoors, it is advised to wear a cap or hat, light and light-coloured clothing, and to avoid direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day. In case of any significant incidents related to the heat, it is requested to report them as quickly as possible to facilitate municipal coordination.
