The Bombers of the Generalitat have extinguished a fire that has burned two buses in a parking lot in Corbera de Llobregat. The flames also affected a forested area and electrical wiring.
Two buses were completely destroyed early this morning in an outdoor parking lot located next to the road of l'Amunt, in Corbera de Llobregat. The fire, which broke out shortly after half past five in the morning, required the mobilization of five units from the Bombers of the Generalitat.
Emergency services received the alert at 05:32 hours on this Sunday, July 26. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene, working for more than two hours to control and extinguish the flames. According to sources from the fire service, the fire was completely extinguished after their intervention.
The incident not only destroyed the two vehicles but also reached a small area of nearby forest. Additionally, the flames damaged part of the electrical wiring in the area, which could have caused power outages in some parts of the municipality of Baix Llobregat.
So far, no injuries or cases of poisoning have been reported, according to emergency sources. It was also not necessary to evacuate any nearby homes, as the fire was concentrated in the parking area and its immediate surroundings.
The local police of Corbera de Llobregat were the first to alert emergency services. Local officers detected the flames during a night patrol and immediately notified the Bombers and the Mossos d'Esquadra.
The Mossos have opened an investigation to clarify the causes of the fire. The initial hypotheses suggest it could be due to a mechanical or electrical failure in one of the buses, although no other possibilities, including intentionality, are ruled out. Technicians are analysing the remains of the vehicles to determine the exact origin of the fire.
The parking lot where the buses were located is an area commonly used for parking heavy vehicles, situated in a semi-rural area of the municipality. The road of l'Amunt is a secondary route that connects Corbera with other towns in Baix Llobregat.
The Bombers have highlighted that the rapid intervention prevented the flames from spreading to a larger forested area, considering that in recent days temperatures have been high and the vegetation is dry, increasing the risk of fires.
The City Council of Corbera de Llobregat has expressed its concern over the incident and has offered collaboration to the Mossos to assist in the investigations. Municipal sources have indicated that the safety conditions of the parking lot will be reviewed to prevent similar situations from occurring.
This fire adds to other incidents recorded in recent months in the Baix Llobregat region, where several vehicles have burned under still unclear circumstances. Local residents have expressed their concern over the frequency of these incidents and are calling for more preventive measures.
The Mossos d'Esquadra continue to gather testimonies and review security cameras in the area to try to identify possible culprits or determine if the fire was accidental. More details about the origin of the fire are expected to be known in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the owners of the burned buses, who have not yet been publicly identified, will need to assess the material damages. The vehicles were rendered completely unusable, representing a significant economic loss for their owners.
